WHEREAS, the Broward County Library System is a vital community resource and has won important awards for excellence, and has there s an EAS urgent eedRfor expansion and for thetupg and ngSystem facilities fa ities thorough u�he th at and WHEREAS, the Broward County Commission will consider a plan to offer voters an opportunity to approve the issuance of bonds in the proposed amount of$139,900,000.00 to finance the needed improvements to the Broward County Library System; and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Broward League of Cities has declared its consensus that it is in the best interest of City governments and the citizens of Broward County that the bonds be issued for the improvements to the Broward County Library System; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Dania Beach enjoy limited library access; and WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach needs expanded library services to serve the needs of its citizens and particularly the needs of the City's youth. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1: The facts and representations set forth in the preamble hereinabove stated are hereby adopted as if set forth verbatim herein. Section 2: The City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, on behalf of its citizenry, endorses the expansion of the Broward County Library System, and urges the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, to take all actions necessary to issue bonds in the amount of $139,900,000.00 to provide for improvements to the Broward County Library System. Section 3: The City Commission further recommends that the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County place the question of whether or not to issue general RESOLUTION NO. 23-99 ti_ F T Y t 7 obligation bonds in the approximate amount of $139,900,000.00 to be used for improvements to the Broward County Library System on the March 1999 ballot. Section 4: The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution to the members of the Broward County Commission, the Director of the Broward Division of Libraries, to the officers of the Public Library Foundation, to each municipality in Broward County and to the Broward League of Cities. Section 7: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10T" day of February, 1999. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and 2 confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. 3 Section 2. The City of Pembroke Pines, Florida appreciates and supports 4 the timely passage of the Broward County bond referendum for the construction of public 5 libraries and therefore recommends a favorable vote by the registered voters of the City 6 of Pembroke Pines and of Broward County during the March, 1999 election. 7 Section 3. The City Commission further requests the support of all S municipalities of Broward Coun Lto lend their support to the passage of the bond 9 referendum by the electorate. ` Section 4. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be 15 and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. 16 Section 6. Recommendation: The City Commission of the City of Lauderdale Lakes recommends that the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County place the question of whether or not to issue general obligation bonds in the approximate amount of $139,900,000.00, to be used for improvements to the Broward County Library System, on the March, 1999 ballot. Section 4. instruction to City Clerk: The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide a true copy hereof to the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, the Director of the Broward Division of Libraries, to the officers of the Public Library Foundation, to each of the several cities of Broward County, Florida, and to the Broward League of Cities. Section 5. Effective Date: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
