HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1987-033 i RESOLUTION NO. 33-87 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR A ONE CENT LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX WITHOUT REFERENDUM; PROVIDING THAT ALL RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH BE REPEALED TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS , the State Constitution provides that cities and counties may only levy taxes authorized by the Legislature; and WHEREAS, every source of tax revenue available to local government is either capped or frozen; and WHEREAS , the State Comprehensive Plan Committee has identified significant infrastructure needs totaling over $16 billion; and WHEREAS, the State has mandated that local governments develop and fund five-year capital improvement programs before development can occur; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide adequate infrastructure in order to properly maintain our present quality of life in Florida; w and WHEREAS , said infrastructure needs cannot be provided without significant additional funding sources; and WHEREAS , responsible planning and economic development dictate bw� the need to give local governments additional financing tools . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania hereby urges the Legislature to authorize a one-cent local option sales tax that will be imposed by a county without a referendum after it has entered into an interlocal agreement with the cities within its jurisdiction providing for the method of distribution of said tax. J i F7 ISection 2, That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide true copies of this resolution to the members of the Broward County Legislative Delegation, the Governor of the State of Florida, the President of the Senate of the State of Florida, the Speaker of the House of the State of Florida, and the i Florida League of Cities. Section 3_ That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict; and i Section 4 . That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 26th DAY OF May 1987. —.
