RESOLUTION NO. 22-87
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF DANIA, FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF THE CLEVELAND
CLINIC FOUNDATION PROPOSED FACILITY IN BROWARD
COUNTY, FLORIDA; AND PROVIDING THAT ALL RESO-
LUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH BE REPEALED TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CON-
FLICT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS , THE CLEVELAND CLINIC FOUNDATION, a not-for-profit
Ohio Corporation ( "THE FOUNDATION" ) , is proposing to create a
not-for-profit Florida Corporation to establish a major, tertiary
medical complex in Broward County; and
WHEREAS , THE FOUNDATION is a National Referral Center, an
International Health Resource and well-recognized as a major,
world-wide medical institution; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of Florida and Broward
County for THE FOUNDATION to establish a facility in Broward County
for the following reasons:
1 . THE FOUNDATION proposes to acquire between 150 and 200
acres of undeveloped land in western Broward County and construct a
major medical complex at an anticipated cost of $150 million for
the provision of superb medical care, the conduct of medical
research and education; and
2. It is anticipated the complex would employ 1000 people in
generally high-paying jobs and would operate with an annual budget
of approximately $150 million; and
3. The medical complex as a regional referral center would
attract patients from the local community, Florida, the Southeast
United States and the Caribbean basin, South America and other
foreign countries; and
9 . The Community would receive the benefits of increased
commercial development ; employment, visitors and tourism and many
related benefits; and
5. If necessary legislation is passed in the 1987 legislative
session, THE FOUNDATION plans to open an interim clinical facility
in 1987 to operate during the time the western Broward County

facility is being constructed.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
DANIA, FLORIDA:
Section 1 . That the Board of Directors of the Broward County
League of Cities welcomes the decision of THE FOUNDATION to locate
a major medical facility in Broward County, Florida, and recognizes
and appreciates the substantial enhancements to the quality of life
and economic contributions resulting to our current and future
residents; and
Section 2. That the Board of Directors of the BCOward County
League of Cities urges the Broward County Legislative Delegation of
the 1987 Florida State Legislature to sponsor and urge the passage

of necessary amendments to the Laws of Florida to allow THE
CLEVELAND CLINIC FOUNDATION to organize, create and operate its
proposed medical facility; and
Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in .
conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict; and

Section 4. That this resolution shall be in force and take
tt effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
