Byrd :Commissioners: Jean Cook James Adams Robert Donly- City Attorney: Frank Adler City Manager: Richard Marant Building Official : Paul Maxwell Fire Chief: Eugene Jewell City Engineer: John Farina OTHERS PRESENT Sun Tattler: Bob French (Item #4 1. Discussion of establishing a policy with regard to removal of on agenda) unsafe s ructures. Building Official Maxwell reported on- the different property owners who refuse to handle cleaning up their property by demolishing the structures that have been declared unsafe for human habitation. City Manager Marant recommended that a new line item be added to the budget setting aside $5,000.00 for the City to proceed with demolishing certain structures that have been .declared unsafe and a hazard to the community. He added that later on this problem can be reviewed to see if more money should be allocated for this project. Discussion followed concerning the procedure that would be follow- ed for demolishing these structures: First, the problem will be brought before the Code Enforcement Board, if that does not work. #2, the problem would be taken to the Unsafe Structures Board, and after a determination has been made to demolish this building, then, #3, money would be used from the Demolition Fund to proceed with demolishing. #4, the procedure for Foreclosure on the property will begin to regain the City's funds. Building Official Maxwell informed the Commission that he would obtain at least three quotes from demolition companies and then choose the best of the three. Monies for this Demolition Fund will be taken from the Capital Projects Fund. : (Item #1 2. Discussion of various a regiments between the Cit of Dania and on agenda) rowar County with regar to t e expansion o t e t. au er ale/ Hollywood International Airport: City Engineer John Farina reported on an agreement that was prepared by his office concerning the relocation of a water main on Federal r Highway with the expansion of the airport. The Commission then re- viewed this agreement with Mr. Farina. Workshop Meeting -1- March 16, 1982 .s; Discussion followed concerning the proposed annexation of lands west of Dania and the different agreements for fire protection and police protection for these areas. The possibility of the County taking over Dania's Social Services Program was discussed, City Manager Marant recommended an agreement for a five year term. Mayor Bertino also added that Dania should be added to the new airports logo. 3. Discussion concerning beach parking and other related matters: City Manager Marant recommended that the City meter the entire beach parking area and change the amount from 25Q per meter to 50t per meter. He also suggested that a person be hired to patrol the beach area at .night to stop the vadalism. '(Item # 2 4. Discussion of resent olic concernin the Citizens' Comments r. on agenda) portion o t e regu ar Commission agenda: Mayor Bertino expressed his concern about citizens coming forward at the Citizens' Comments portion of the agenda and asking questions that have not been brought before the City Manager to handle. He added that when the administration is not prepared for these types of questions, than the people watching on television never know how these problems are handled, because Mr. Marant must go back and check with his staff the following day. After further discussion, it was decided that citizens' will be required to take their problems to the administration first and if they do not receive satisfaction, then, it may be brought be- for the.Citizens' Comments of the agenda and that every agenda will have this new policy typed on it for their knowledge.
