DANIA CITY COMMISSION
WORKSHOP MEETING
AUGUST 11 , 1983
ROLL CALL:
Present:
Mayor: Chester A. Byrd
Vice-Mayor: John Bertino
Commissioners: Jean Cook
James Adams
Robert Donly
City Attorney: Frank Adler
Deputy City Manager: Eugene Jewell
Mitchell Caesar, Attorney for Broward Cablevision
and Ron Hren, General Manager of Broward Cablevision
were also in attendance.
1 . Discussion of the ordinance amending ordinance #25 to
extend the non-exclusive franchise granted to Gold Coast
Cable TV, Inc. for an additional ten (10) year period.
Broward Cablevision reviewed with the Commission its past
performance and future plans. During discussion, it was
determined that the primary reason for the ten year exten-
sion is to serve as collateral for lenders or financial
backers. Broward Cablevision plans to invest $600,000.00
to improve the quality of service to Dania residents.
Mitchell Caesar and City Attorney Adler will clarify the
language in the ordinance and clearly define the franchise
fee as 3% of gross receipts.
2. Discussion of Broward Cablevision's rate schedule.
Mitchell Caesar discussed the proposed rate increase (about
6%) with the Commission and stated that the last rate in-
crease was in 1976.
It was generally agreed that Mitchell Caesar will attend and make
a presentation at the Commission Meeting public hearing on August .
23, 1983.
The Workshop meeting was then adjourned.
