The City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida, met in Special Session in the Commission Room-.,,at the City Hall. Present were: VICE-MAYOR-COMMISSIONER ROBERT L. GRAMMER COMMISSIONERS VIRGIL L. TARPLEY JOSEPH D. THORNTON CITY MANAGER LESTER E. CULVERSON DEPUTY CLERK MILDRED PIPKIN HOLLYWOOD ATTORNEY AUGUST PAOLI ATTORNEY LINWOOD CABOT The purpose of this meeting is to reach- some agreement -between the City of Hollywood and the City of Dania in regards to the annexa- tion of the 570 acres. Hollywood Attorney August Paoli: Gentlemen, my Commission asked me to meet with you, and I made arrangements with Mr. Cabot and asked him to bring some of his people. We are trying to work out the annex- ation program which Hollywood has been contemplating many years , and I understand that Dania has been considering, to see if there can be some arrangement made, not only between the two cities , but also with the property owners. From a legal standpoint, as Mr. Cabot will tell you, it is not up to the property owners, unless they have a serious enough oU3ection other than the fact that they don't want to come into the city. It is a question of the benefit that it can be to the city, and not the lack of benefits that can accrue to the area to be annexed. But rarely has the City of Hollywood annexed an area without getting some indi- cation from`the property owners in that area: We checked it out, and there are about 52 property owners in that area, and yet objections come from only about a dozen Together we will individually poll the property owners, and if we find that they don't want to annex, I think that the City of Hollywood will not force them, and I feel that the City of Dania doesn't want to either. We will ask for a 30;,day postponement on the court hearing to give us time to poll the property owners. We will submit letters to the 52 property owners in that area, stating that . . . . . . (1) The cities of Hollywood and Dania would like for you to inform them as to whether you would like to be annexed or not, and (2) Which city has your preference. We can insert in the letter, that the purpose is to give the best protection that is available. `•` There being no further business on the agenda, the meeting adjourned. t Mary Thornhill City Clerk-Auditor 71aa., ° Yt d Vera L.
