HomeMy WebLinkAbout86399 - MINUTES - City Commission MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING, CITY COIZUSSION, CITY OF DANIA, 17A111IDA, HELD APRIL 22, 1964 The City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida, met in Special Session in the Commission Room at the City Hall at 7:30 P.14. Present were: MAYOR-COMMISSIONER VERA L. HILL COLNISSIONERS R. L. GRA11TdER VIRGIL L. TARPLEY JOSEPH D. THOR111TON S. ELLIS YOUNG CITY MANAGER LESTER CULVERSON CITY CLERK MARY THORNHILL The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. (1) Wage Schedule: Mr. Culverson read as follows: "An employee working on a legal holiday shall receive equivilent of time off j on another day or shall receive an additional days pay. An em- ployee shall receive a vacation with nay at the 'end of one year of service. Vacations should he at the convenience of the depart- ment head. Six working days vacation with pay is allowed all em- ployees on a normal working schedule of hh to 50 hours a week. !' Holidays during the vacation period may be added to the vacation. Employees with fifteen years service or more, and employees working sin: days a week, including Sunday's and Holidays, will be allowed fifteen working days vacation. Sick pay: One-half day per month sick pay allowed . If not used, can accumulate to one weeks pay ij per year." Thornton: The only thing I object to is paying them for extra hours when they may have been off a couple days the previous week because of rain. Mr. Grammer then made the motion that this be accepted with that one change, this to begin starting the following Friday morning. Mr. Young seconded the motion, and roll being called, the Commissioners voted as follows: Grammer Yes Tarpley Yes Thornton Yes Young Yes Hill Yes (2) Bill for payment: Services of April lh of Zoning Board $%0.GO Payment to Inter4oufity_Ccnst1, 0o;r,. $750.00. Mr. Young made the motion to pay the Inter..-0ountyLGanstiuction-Colnpany. Mr. Tarpley seconded the motion, and roll being called, the Commis- sioners voted as follows: Grammer Yes Tarpley Yes Thornton Yes 7 Young Yes Hill Yes (3) Correspondence: From Florida Power and Light Company: "Gentlemen, In consideration of the payment of $1.00, and other valuable consider- ations, receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the undersigned grants and gives to you right to install and maintain 3 guy stubs and 4 anchors and necessary guy wires for an electric transmission and distribution line, on our property described as follows:" We recommend that. they be given these easements. Mr. Thornton made the motion that the Florida Power and Light Company be granted these easements. Mr. Tarpley seconded the motion, and roll being called, the Commissioners voted as follows: k,. Grammer Yes Tarpley Yes Thornton Yes Young Yes Hill Yes 04) Mr. Zenobia from audience asked why you go out of City to hire people when there are so many people in the City of Dania who need work. Mr. Grammer brought up the fact that City Attorney Walden stated that they could not hire an assistant City Clerk, but that the City Charter states that in the case that the City Clerk shall not be able to attend meetings, the Assistant City Clerk shall attend in his or her stead. Mr. Tarpley made the motion that the City Manager be fired on the basis that he dbds not reside in the City of Dania. Mr. Grammer seconded the motion, and roll being called, the Commissioners voted as follows: Grammer Yes Tarpley Yes Thornton No Young No Hill No Mr. Tarpley: In other words, this is going on the record that you three Commissioners are going against our City Charter? Mr. Thornton: It1s not going against the City Charter. ?" Mr. Tarpley: I'd like the papers to carry the statement, and if you would like a copy of it, I can get it for you, word for word. Mayor Hill: Is there anything else to be brought up? Mr. Zenobia: Getting back to my original question. Do you hire people from outside the City of Dania. I suggest you advertise in the Dania papers first before you hire someone outside the city. Mr. Tarpley made a motion to authorize the Chief of Police, the Fire ` Chief, and Mr. Myron Wall to set up a pension plan for the Police and Fire Departments.
