The City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida met in Special Session in the Commission Room at the City Hall. PRESENT WERE: MAYOR COMMISSIONER FRANK E. EBY COMMISSIONERS E. Be ELKINS ROBERT E. HOUSTON E. S. TUBBS, JR. CITY ATTORNEY CLARKE WALDEN ' CITY CLERK MARY THORNHILL Meeting called to order at 5:00 P. M. by Mayor Eby. Mayor Eby, presented a bill from Jack F. Cooper W Associates' in the. amount of $298.08 for plans and specifications for N. W. Second Street and N. W. llth Avenue.• A motion was made by Commissioner Houston this bill be paid when all the plans and specifications are delivered to City Hall; motion seconded by Commissioner Tubbs, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes A motion was made by Commissioner Tubbs to authorize the adver- tising for objections to paving an alley between S. E. bth Street and S. E. 7th Street, between S. E. Second and S. E. Third Avenue, objections to be heard May 5, at 8:00 P. M.; motion seconded by Commissioner Houston and carried. Mayor Eby•.presented a Right of Way Deed from the Netherton Cor- poration, conveying the South 25 feet of the NWT, of the SWJ of the NW}, and the South 25 feet of the W* of the NE4 of the SWI of the NW4, Section 35-50-42• ' . A motion was made by Commissioner Houston that a resolution be drawn and passed accepting this deed; motion seconded by Com- missioner Tubbs, and the roll being called, the following com- missioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes Tubbs Yea Eby Yes A motionwas made by Commissioner Houston that all bids be closed; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins and carried. Mayor Eby asked the commission what they wished to do on the re- quest from W. I-Warrensford about a donation toward the lights for the football field at Attucks School, as they should let him know something: one way or the other. A motion was made by Commissioner Houston that arrangements be made to purchase material in an amount of $250.00 or pay an in- ' voice in that amount $250.00 toward the installation of lights at the football field at Attucks School; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes -2- Mayor Eby advised the commission that he was waiting for veri- fication on investing the $100,000. the bank should confirm what rate they can pay tomorrow. A motion was made by Commissioner Houston authorizing Mayor Eby to invest $1000000. for ninety (90) days; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston •Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes Commissioner Houston stated that the Building Inspector' s resig- nation expires today and he was anxious to get away, and that he would like to recommend the City pay him two weeks salary as severance pay. He is willing to cooperate with us and make inspections until we can fill the vacancy. I worked with him last year when we did not have a City Manager, and he did not take a vacation, only took time off several week-ends and I think it would be only fair to do something for him. I will make a motion to give the Building Inspector two weeks severance pay; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: . NO BID A motion was made by Commissioner Houston to accept the bid of B & C Construction Company, lowest and best bidder, for the construction of a Concession Stand and Rest Rooms at 30 Acre Park; motion seconded by Commissioner Tubbs, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes Commissioner Houston advised the commission that there would be a demonstration of a new mosquito fogging machine at the plant on Stirling Road, Tuesday A.M. at 10 otclock, and he would like to have as many commissioners as possible go and see it. That it was getting time for the commission to do something about purchasing some kind of fogging equipment as it was getting close to the sand fly and mosquito. season. -3- A motion was made by Commissioner Tubbs that the Commission declares an emergency exists due to the sand fly and mosquito situation, to waive advertising for bids for the purchase of a mosquito fogging machine, due to the existing emergency, and if the Commission sees fit, after the demonstration to purchase a fogging machine; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yea Tubbs Yes ' Eby Yea Commissioner Houston advised the commission that Mr. Beaver, on Dixie Highway, owner of the Beaver Apartments, would like to put sidewalks along his property. The same situation exists there as on the corner of Dixie Highway and 4th Avenue. If the city will go along with him as they did Scarberry, believe we can get Buzza to continue his contract and. put sidewalks in. That will give us sidewalks along Second Avenue to 7th Street. We could 'have him sign a release to the City. I believe we could offer him something in return for the radius andfget these sidewalks in. It was agreed by all commissioners to see what could be worked out with Mr. Beaver and continue Buzze' s contract. There being no further business, on motion and voted, the meeting adjourned.
