The City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida met in Regular Session in the Commission Room at the City Hall. PRESENT WERE: MAYOR COMMISSIONER FRANK E. EBY COMMISSIONERS E. B. ELKINS ROBERT E. HOUSTON JAMES J. MCMILLAN E. S. TUBBS, JR. CITY ATTORNEY CLARKE WALDEN CHIEF OF POLICE GEORGE WILLIAMS ' BUILDING INSPECTOR A. F. RAYMOND CITY CLERK MARY THORNHILL Meeting •called to order at 8:00 o'clock P. .M. by Mayor Eby. Minutes of meetings held August 18 and August 19, 1958 were read. A motion was made by Commissioner Elkins minutes be approved as read; motion seconded by Commissioner Tubbs, and the roll being oalled, the following commissioners voted. Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ELECTRICAL CODE", was read by Attorney Walden. A motion was made by Commissioner Tubbs this ordinance be passed on third and final reading; motion seconded by Commissioner Mc- Millan, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes ' Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes "AN ORDINANCE REZONING A PORTION OF COLLEGE TRACT SECOND ADDITION", was read by Attorney Walden. A motion was made by Commissioner McMillan this ordinance be pass- ed on third and final reading; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes Boisey Walters, the petitioner for the change in zoning for por- tions of College Tract Second Addition, stated that they had re- quested a change in zoning of all of Blocks 8 through Block 12, in a letter to the Zoning Board after their original request. But no action had been taken on that. Mayor Eby advised Mr. Waiters that if they still wished to have ' the other blocks rezoned they would have to go before the Zoning Board again. A bill from Anchor Post products, Inc. in the amount of $509.45 for the construction of fence at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pratt, Owner - Century Cab Co. ' requesting permits for five taxicab permits for the• City of Dania. She stated they will furnish all necessary insurance coverage for cabs. Also, operate a twenty-four service, all cabs being radio dispatched. A motion was made by Commissioner Tubbs to revoke the franchise with Great Yellow Checker Cab Company due to the fact they have not been able to complete their contract; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes A motion was made by Commissioner McMillan that any action on taxicab permits be tabled until the next meeting, and have the City Clerk notify other cab companies to submit a proposal at that time if interested; motion seconded by Commissioner Houston, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yea Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yea A letter was read from Luther Sparkman submitting his resignation as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board, due to the fact he is a candidate for the City Commission in the next election. - 5 - A motion was made by Commissioner Tubbs to accept the resigna- tion of Mr. Sparkman with regrets; motion seconded by Commissioner Houston),- and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes A motion was made by Commissioner Houston that a resolution be , drawn and passed commending Luther Sparkman for his services as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board; motion seconded by Commissioner Tubbs, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes Renewal of .Alcoholic Beverage License for 1958-1959 were pre- sented as follows: BAR & PACKAGE STORE Reuben T. & Mary T. A motion was made by Commissioner McMillan, this resolution be passed; motion seconded by Commissioner Elkins, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes Commissioner Houston stated that there wag an item in the new budget of $19000 for the Woman's Club to be used in the oper- ation of the library, and that he would like to make a motion that this money be given to them at this time; motion seconded by Commissioner Tubbs, and the roll being called, the following commissioners voted: Elkins Yes Houston Yes McMillan Yes Tubbs Yes Eby Yes A motion was made by Commissioner Houston that the Community Building located at 25 N.
