HELD THURSDAY DECEviBER 29th A.D.1927 at 7:30 P.M.
A meeting of the City Council of the City of Dania, Florida was
held Thursday December 29th at 7:30 P.M.in the City Hall pursuant to
adjournment of the meeting held December 12th, 1927. The following were
present:
Arthur C. O 'Hea, Mayor.
J.M.Holding, Councilman
F.L.Neville, Councilmen
O.S.Peck, Councilman
Councilmen John B. Gregory and,M.C.Frost were absent from the
meeting.
The following also were present:

Raymond T. Skinner, City Clerk.
h Mayor O'Hea called the meeting to order.
The City engineer presented an amended plat of Hollywood Heights
for approval of the council.
Councilman Neville made a motion that the City engineer be
authorized to endorse the approval of council to the plat. The motion
was seconded by Councilman Peck and upon being put to a vote of the
council the motion was carried unanimously.
The city Clerk then read the following proposed ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE
No. 20
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR LICENSE TAXES AND PROVIDING TEWS UNDER WHICH
LICENSES MAY BE OBTAINED FOR ANY BUSINESS PROFESSION OR OCCUPATION IN
THE CITY OF DANIA FLORIDA AND PROVIDING A PUNISHMENT FOR THE VIOLATION
OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Dania,Florida:
Section 1. No person, form, association, or corporation shall
engage in or manage any business, profession, or occupation within the
City of Dania, 1'lorida, without first obtaining from the City Clerk
a license therefor, and without first having paid the amount of license
tax required therefor herein for the use of the City.
Section 2. No license shall issue, or be granted to any applicant
therefor to engage in any business, profession or occupaition coming
within the category mentioned in Section 4 of this ordinance unless the
applicant shall first file with the City Clerk an application stating:
1. The applicant's name.
2. The nature of the business, profession or occupation.
3. The particular location in the City of Dania, where he proposes
to engage in the business for which the license is sought.
Said application must be -sworn to before some officer of the
State of Florida, authorized to administer oaths.
Section 3. Any license shall be transferable with the approval of
the City Clerk, with the business for which it is taken out, when there
is a bona fide sale, and transfer of the business for which the license
has been taken out, together with a transfer and sale of the property
used and employed in said business, and not otherwise;provided such
transfer shall be made within thirty ( 30) days after such sale of said
business, otherwise said license shall become null and void and of no
effect.
Section 4. The assessments of such license taxes upon businesses,
occupations and professions within the City of Dania, Florida,to be
collected by the City Clerk upon the issuance of a license therefor,
are fixed hereby as follows:

Section Be Every business, occupation, profession or exhibition
fixed or temporarily engaged in by any person, firm, assoeiationj or
corporation within the City and not herein specifically designated in
Section 4 hereofrshall pay a license tax of ten ( .V10.00) Dollars.
Section 6. All licenses shall expire the 31st day of December of
the year in which they are issued. No license shall be issued for more
than one year; and for each license obtained between January let and
July let, full tax for one year shall be paid, and for each license
obtained from July 1st to December 31st, one half (-�) the full tax for
one year shall be charged.
Section 7. Any person or persons, or the members of any firm or
association, or the officers of any corporation violating the provisions
of any section of this ordinance shall, upon conviction before the Mayor
be punished by a fine not exceeding -One Hundred Dollz.r8 ( �100.00) or by
imprisonment for a period not exceeding sixty (60) days, or both such
fine and imprisonment In the discretion of the Mayor.
Section 8. Every day's selling or disposing of merchandise or
engaging in business without first obtaining a license therefor, as
provided herein, shall constitute a separate and distinct violation of
this ordinance.
Section 9. Should any part, paragraph, or section of this ordinance
be declared invalid in any Judicial proceeding, such partial invalidity
shall not affect the remainder of this ordinance.
Section 10. All ordinances or parts of ordinances and resolutions
or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are repealed hereby.

Councilman Holding made a motion that the second and third readings
of Ordinance No. 10 be waived and that it be p&aced on its final passage.
The motion was seconded by Councilman reek and upon roll call the Council
voted as follows:

Councilman Neville made a motion that the ordinance be passed as
read. The motion was seconded by Councilman Holding and upon roll call
the council voted as follows:

Whereupon Mayor O'Hea ettached his signature to the ordinance and it
became Ordinance No. 20 of the Ordinances of the City of Dania, Florida.
The City Clerk then read the following Resolution:
A RESOLUTION
AUTHORIZING THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DANIA FLORIDA_ TO RENEW WO
NOTES IN THE SUM OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) B&CH DATED
SEPTELIBER 26th A.D.1927AND HELD BY THE DANIS BANK & TRUST COMPANY.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Dania, r'lorida:

Section 1. In order to provide for necessary expenses for the
operation of the City and proper expendiatures for municipal purposes
the City Council of the City of Dania, Florida, did, on the 26th day of
September A.D.1927, authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to borrow from' the
Dania Bank & Trust Company of Dania, Florida, the sum of kkxax Ten
Thousand Dollard ($10,000.00) issuing therefor two notes in the sum of
Five Thousand Dollard ( 05,000.00) each payable ninety days from date
with interest at the rate of eight (8 } per cent per annum, which notes
are now due and payable.
Section 2. That the Mayor and the City Clerk be and they are
authorized hereby to execute two notes of the City of Dania, Florida,
for said sums now due and payable to the Dania Bank & Trust Company, said
notes to be payable Ninety (90) days from date with interest at a rate
hot to exceed eight ( 8%) per cent per annum.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its
passage and approval by the mayor.
Passed this 29th day of December A.D.1927.

Councilman Holding made a motion that the resolution be adopted. The
motion was seconded by Councilman Peck and upon being put to a vote of
the council the resolution was adopted unanimously.
Mayor O'Hea then presented the following enrollment of volumteer
firemen.

DANI6. VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
We, the undersigned, hereby enroll as members of the Dania Volunteer
Fire Department and agree to answer all fire alarms when within in
hearing of the alarm and also to attend all fire drills when summoned by
the Chief.
L.O.Hansen, D.M. Jordan, O.D. Stiles, B.L.Huff, Sam Blackwelder, T.C.
Williams, H.G.LaBree, L.L.Merritt, William S. Paisley, C.E.Stone, George
A. Schmitt, L. Brown, H. Hirsch, J.C.Westbrook, W.R.Howat, Lt.H.Earting,
F.E. Sullivan, E.T.Frost, P. T. Thompson and C. Adams.
Councilman Peck made a motion that these men be enrolled as members
of the Dania Volunteer Fire Department. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Neville and upon being put to a vote was carried unanimously.
The City Clerk presented a bill for �8.00 for repairing water
mains submitted by w.E.Crotty.
Councilman Neville made a motion that the bill be paid. The motion
was seconded by councilman Peak and upon being put to a vote of the
council the motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Holding made a motion that the meeting adjourn. The
motion was seconded by councilman Neville and upon being put to a vote
of the council was carried unanimously.
