The following were present. r Arthur C. OHea, Ilayor 4 John B. Gregory, Councilman F.L.Neville, Councilman O. S.-eck, Councilman Councilmen J.Ii.Holding and T.R.Brown were absent from the meeting. t The following also were present: Raymond T. Skinner, City Clerk T.D.Ellis Jr. , City Attorney. i,.ayor O 'Hea called the meeting to order and announced that this date had been set for herring objections to the improvement of First avenue with sidewalks. No objections were heard. The city clerk then read the following resolution entitled: L RESOLUTION CONFIRMING LOCIL LSSESSL[ET_•1T ROLL FOR LOU-I, L.uROVEI'IENT 1,10.4 ',7ITHI1; TEE CITY OF DANIL PLORIDA. 1.ihereas the assessment roll for Local Improvement No. 4 of the City of Dania, Florida had been completed and submitted to the City council on the 5th day of March L.D.1928, and '.hereas, at a meeting of the City Council held on said date of March 5th 1928, the City Council passed a resolution confirming a resolution ordering Local improvement Ito. 4 and instructing the Cityt­ Clerk to cause publication to be made of said assessment roll for avid improvement in The Record, E newspaper published in the City of Dania Florida-, and to attach to said assessment roll a notice to ?roperty owners that a hearing would be held in the City Council on the 26th dEy of Iiarch A.D.1928 at 7:30 2.I.1. in the Citv Hall to hear and consider complaints from property owners upon said assessments as provided in said assessment roll , and ',7hereas, the City Clerk has caused 'said assessment roll and said notice to be published in The Record, a newspaper published in the City of Dania, Florida, End Whereas the City Council in meeting now assembled as an equalizing board to hear and consider any and all complaints as to such assessments has had no complaints as to said assessments brought to the attention of the City Council , Nov; therefore BE IT RESOLVED by the City council of the City of Dania, Florida: Section 1. That the assessments of property for local Improvement No. 4 as set forth in the assessment roll for local Improvement No. 4 of the City of Dania, Florida, Copy of which is hereto attached, be and the same are hereby confirmed and approved, and said assessments are declared to be liens upon the property against which such asso^sments are made until paid in accordance with the conditions stated in said assessment roll, provided, however, that upon the completion of said improvement the City of Dania shall rebate to the owner of any property which shall have been specially assessed for said improvement, the difference in the assessment as originally made and now approved End confirmed and the proportionate Hart of the actual cost of said improvement to be paid by special assessment as shall be finally d6termined upon the completion of said improvement and payment therefor by the City of Dania, Florida. Section 2. This resolution shell be in force and take effect from End after its adoption. V, r Passed and adopted this 26th dry of Llarch L.D.1928. Lpproved: I:Iayor Idayor City Clerk Councilman Neville made a motion that the resolution be adopted as read. The motion was seconded by Councilman Gregory and upon being Put to a vote of Council was unanimously adopted. The City Clerk then read the following ordinrnce entitled: IN ORDIEUITCE PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSE TLX FOR VENDING I,Ij'CHIIIES ',7ITNIN THE CITY OF DLNIL FLORIDL BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Dania, Florida : Section 1. That thelicense tax for the business of operating conducting and owning vending machines within the City of Dania, Florida, shall be twenty-five dollars (�25.00) per year for each vending machine. Section 2. Ssid license tax shall be collected by and be payable to the City of Dania, Florida, in the same manner as other license taxes are paid the City of Dania, Florida, according to the terms of Ordinance No. 20 of the City of Dania, Florida, passed and adopted by the City Council on the 29tb day of December L.D.1927. Section 5. Lll ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed hereby. Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval by the mayor. Passed and adopted this 26th day of Idarch L. D,1928. Approved: City Clerk ` Mayor Councilman Neville made a motion that the second and third readings of the ordinance be waived and that it be placed upon its final. passage. The motion was seconded by Councilman Peck. The council voted as follows: r Councilman Gregory, Aye. Councilman Ileville, Aye. Councilman Peck, Lye Those voting Nay, None Councilman Gret.:ory ' then made a motion that the ordinance be h' adopted as read. The motion was seconded by Councilman Peck. Those voting nay, !:one. .!hereupon fks Mayor O 'Hea affixed his signature to the ordinance ;.' and it became Ordinance No. 25 of the ordinances of the City of Dania Florida. I.Irs. DI-Rid Crook appeared before council and asked that when the budget for next year is malde up that an appropriation be made for the public library. ::.ayor O 'Hea appointed Councilman Ileville as a committee ;; . of one to confer erith Elrs. Crook an the amount needed for the library. The I.Iayor instructed the City I., nz;ger to prepare an estmate on the cost of building the er:11a. .L.Lierritt, canta:in of the Danis Volunteer Fire Dena:rtment before council vnd asked thtt the City 2urchase some fire fighting equipment for the Volunteers. He submitted z: list of things needed and their approximate costs. Councilman Neville made a motion that the City purchase six pairs of rubber boots, six helmets, six quick, hitch eor.ts a.nd pants End twenve steel brooms at a cost of approximately 7162.00. The motion was seconded by Councilman Gregory and upon being put to a vote was unanimously carried. I.Iayor O 'Hea then opened the bids on the water works extension in the colored section of the city. One bid visa submitted by the Id.E.. Hoffman Construction company as follows: To the Hon. Mayor and City Council City of Dania:, Fla. Gentlemen: ',7ith reference to the contemplated "installation of water mains in the colored section of the town, we wish to advise that there is sufficient four and six inch pipe to complete the job as outlined to F us by 11r. Skinner. ',Is will agree to install the same in a good and workin-alike manner for the following prices: 3,000 linear feet at 33 cents per foot total $990.00 3 hydrerts at �9. 50 each total 28. 50 1018,50 Corporation cocks and goosenecks at the same price of the present contract. Respectfully M.E.Hoffman Construction Co. By M.E.Hoffman, President. Bid Check of 75.00 accompanied bid. Councilman Gregory made a motion that the contract be awarded to the I.I.E.Hoffman Construction Company at the above figures. The motion was seconded by Councilmen Neville and upon being put to a vote of council was carried unanimously. The city Clerk then read the following bills: B. S. Interest 200.00 Councilman Gregory made a motion that the bills be approved and ordered paid. Councilman Neville seconded the motion and upon being '.' put to a vote of the council the motion was carried unanimously. -`` Mcyor O 'Hes brought up the matter of allowing a discount for cash payment of sidewalk assessments.
