Meeting was called to order by Mayor Brooke at 7:30 p.m.
Minutes of meeting held December 17, 21 and 28 read, ap-
proved as read and ordered adopted. r
Mr. Russel Wattles came before the uouncil in regard to
the Dania Chamber of Commerce Tomato Day and requested the use _.
of the City park from February 12 to 16, and the cancellation f
of any license fees, etc. on carnivals and shows that might
be issued during this time, for Tomato Day. Councilman Park-
hurst moved that the Chamber of Commerce be granted permission
to use the park from xebruary 12 to February 16 for Tomato Day
purposes and that all licenses on carnivals and shows be waived.
Motion seconded by Councilman Ryan and carried.
Mrs. P-lorence Campbell came before the Council "end asked
for permission to build porches on trailers in her trailer
park and small cabins. After discussion, Councilman Frost
moved that Mrs: Campbell be allowed to build porches and small
cabins as long as they complied with the Health Department.
Seconded by Councilman LaBree and carried.
Fire Chief Brook came before the Council and referred to
the Adirondack Tourist Camp and reported that trailers were
parked too close together and were a fire hazard. He requested
than an ordinance be passed preventing trailers from being parked
in such a congested area. After discussion Mayor nrooke appointed
a committee consisting of Councilmen Frost, Parkhurst and LaBree
to investigate all trailer parks within the city limits, for fire
and sanitary hazards, and to report back to the Council at a
future date.
A colored delegation came before the uduncil and requested
that water be placed in Phippen's Colored Subdivision eouth' of
the Davie Road .and -west of the FEC railroad tracks. They were
told that a new water works program was in progress and that as
soon as the improvements could be put in, that water would be
furnished in this area.
Mr. Klatt came before the Council and requested a street
be placed through the Campbell Trailer Park. After discussion
as to location and right of way, Mayor Brooke appointed Mr.
Ryan and Mr. LaBree as a committee to investigate the right of
way and location of a street through this area.
Councilman Ryan moved that temporary permits for 30 days
be granted to colored taxi drivers, subject to their obtaining
the proper permit of necessity from the City Council, and pro-
vided that they have insurance on their taxies. Motion seconded
by Councilman LaBree and carried.
Mr. Libirto came before the Council in regard to collecting
garbage and hauling it to his incinerator. He reported that
he would collect and haul the garbage for $1.50 per yard, com-
pressed, provided the City furnish two men to go with his truck
to collect the garbage. Tabled For further discussion.
Will Jones came before the Council and requested permission
to put pp a tent for revival and church purposes. After dis-
?:;: cuasion, Councilman Frost moved that permission be granted the
Pentecostal Church of Christ permit to erect and use for 30 days
their tent, for revival purposes. Seconded by Councilman LaBree
and carriedt.
Mayor Brooke reported that the Woman's Club had requested
that the library be painted and that they had an estimate for
painting of 090. Mayor Brooke reported that the roof also
needed staining and this work could be done at an approximate
cost of $15 more than the $90 bid. Councilman Frost moved
that they paint the library and stain the shingles at the same
time. Seconded by Councilman Ryan and carried.
Paul Heckert reported on the painting of the parking,
zoning strips on the Federal Highway. He reported that on
January 8, the painting machine from Hollywood would be in
Dania to begin painting the stripes. Councilman Frost rec-
ommended that the parking zone in front of the post office be
painted off and that signs be painted for 15 minute parking.
Mayor Brooke recommended that the financial statement of
the city be published at least once a year. After discussion,
Mayor Brooke moved that the semi-annual: financial statement of
the city be published in the Dania Press. Seconded by council-
man Frost and carried.
A letter was read from the War Department in regard to
individuals building groins on the ocean beach in Block 207.
Attorney Ellin was instructed to draw up a letter or protest
and forward to the War Department.
Fire Chief Brook requested that the City write a letter
to the Inland Navigation Department and request spoil to be
placed on Block 203 of the Dania Beach Park to fill it in.
The Clerk was instructed to write to the Inland Navigation Dis-
trict and request them to use Block 203 of the Dania Beach Park
for a temporary spoil area in order to have the park filled in.
