A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF
MOTHERS AGAINST PREDATORS (MAP), A GROUP OF PARENTS,
POLITICAL LEADERS, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT REPRESENTATIVES
WHO STRIVE TO PROTECT CHILDREN AGAINST ONLINE PREDATORS;
URGING ALL BROWARD COUNTY MUNICIPALITIES TO SUPPORT
MAP; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO BROWARD COUNTY, EACH BROWARD COUNTY
MUNICIPALITY, AND ALL OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES; PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,the internet has revolutionized life and has transformed the way people live,
work, conduct business and communicate with others; and
WHEREAS,while this life-changing technology offers worldwide access to information,
it has also opened up new avenues for sexual predators to seek out unsuspecting children; and
WHEREAS, currently, there are over 600,000 Registered Sex Offenders in the United
States and 93% of all Americans between the ages of 12 and 17 use the internet; and
WHEREAS, MAP and similar organizations are forging partnerships with local and
national elected officials and law enforcement to create effective laws and education campaigns
to provide defenses against internet predators; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of anyone who uses the internet, especially parents,
to be aware of the dangers posed by internet predators; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida deems it to be in
the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City and the State of Florida to support the
activities of Mothers Against Predators and their mission to empower people with the skills
necessary to protect themselves and their families against internet predators;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are confirmed and ratified as
being true and correct and they are incorporated into this Resolution.
Section 2. That the City Commission expresses its support of the activities of
Mothers Against Predators (MAP) and urges all Broward County municipalities to support the
activities of MAP.
Section 3. That the City Clerk is directed to provide a copy of this Resolution to
Broward County, each Broward County municipality, and all other interested parties.
Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution
are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 5. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect upon its adoption.
