Chairman Taylor said Mark Felicetty from the Parks & Recreation Department had
been expected to attend.
Chairman Taylor welcomed Mr. &Mrs. Lewis and invited their comments. Mr.
Lewis stated they have been tenants at the marina for the past six years and were
present this evening to question some disturbing issues that presently exist at the
marina. The first issue being the deplorable condition of the docks themselves. He
said dock planking is loose and dangerous and the bathroom ceilings are in a state
of collapse. The second issue is security. He described the dock security as being
next to nothing. No ID is ever requested day or night. Strangers are allowed to
roam the docks at any time and there has been numerous incidents of burglary,
theft and vandalism. If there is any security, they are not doing their job. There are
serious tenant safety concerns.
Mr.Kafouros commented the board had completely covered these issues in their
report they had given to City Manager Pato for distribution to the commissioners.
Chairman Taylor circulated a letter he had received from City Manager Pato which
indicated all the Commissioners had received the boards recommendations. (A copy
of Mr. Patos letter is enclosed herewith).

• A lengthy discussion followed. Board members found it very disappointing that
their proposal and suggestions were being overlooked or ignored by the
Commissioners, particularly since they had been approached by City Manager Pato
last July, asking for their help. A great deal of time and effort had gone into putting
together a report and proposal for a profitable operation and a marina that could be
a real asset to Dania Beach residents. City Manager Pato had indicated the
Commission would probably want to have a workshop with the board and they
were looking forward to being able to be of assistance. However no one on the board
has been contacted and the boards report has not been acknowledged in any way.
The board decided to try to bring its concerns to the attention of the City
Commission by requesting permission to speak at a Commission Meeting, workshop
or even under"Citizens Comments" at a Commission Meeting..
Officer Jason Riddle reported the State approved funding for derelict vessel
disposal had been vetoed by Governor Bush. However a grant request is now
being considered so funding for this purpose may still become available. Officer
Riddle will keep the board informed,
At the previous meeting Mr.Webb had volunteered to get more information about
Eco Waste. When he contacted them he was told they would only accept completely
stripped vessels having no fuel,no engine and no on.
The board was sorry to learn of the passing of board member,Charlie McKenna.
Carol Stokrocki suggested a memorial brick be installed in his memory at the
Parker Center brick walk. She felt the funding for the brick purchase should be
taken from funds she thought belong to the board. Several of the other members
suggested there be a collection from the board members to cover the cost. The
existence of funds that are available to the board will be explored.
There being no additional business to bring before the board,Chairman Taylor
adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
