Carol Stokrocki taking minutes Guest: Mike McCloskey NEW BUSINESS: Mike McCloskey reported on boat thefts occurring in West Dania. Mike Grady was one of the unfortunate people who had his boat stolen. His boat was recovered in West Dade County. Mike McCloskey was on a three week surveillance operation which involved cruising the canals, walking on residents docks and back yards. No alarms or lights went on while he was doing this and no one knew he was there. Mike feels that people have become apathetic and thieves do not see a deterent. He would like to promote public awareness by placing an article in the Dania Press suggesting boat owners to have better lighting around their boats/docks and/or motion detectors. Glenn will push to have this article placed in the paper. Mike also suggested using the Sun Sentinel and the Miami Herald. Glenn advised that a BSO substation and firehouse are to be built in the near future. This may also help with the problem in this area. Clive Taylor reported on the dock setback ordinance. Basically the public did not like the ordinance. The majority of the commission felt this ordinance could promote a lawsuit and does not want to incur the expenses. Clive informed us that the Fence Ordinance was passed. Glenn reported on the beach renourishment. Currently,Hallendale Beach is being worked on, The project is already two weeks behind. Dania Beach will take about one week for the renourishment, which should • happen in July or August. Broward County has run out of useable sand. The sand is now being delivered on barges. We will also have new huts put on the beach Glenn welcomed new and old board members. This was the first meeting of the new board. Clive was unanimously voted in as our chairperson.
