The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Bernard Swindell,Acting Chairman
Minutes of the April meeting were approved as written.
• Capt. Moms said Mr. Leeds had some additional concerns regarding the motion made by
the board at the April meeting in reference to the ten foot set back from property lines for
docking. In order to reopen the question and bring the matter back to the table, a motion
was necessary. Motion made by Bernard Swindell, seconded by Mark Latimer and
carried. Mr. Leeds said that boat lifts are an issue. They require a permit and some
regulation should be made in regard to their location as well as the location for davits. If
the board makes a decision on these issues at this meeting, Mr. Leeds will meet with the
city attorney so that the ordinance can be presented for the commission's consideration in
July. He mentioned also that whatever is decided will not apply to the area west of
Ravenswood Road. That area is subject to regulation in compliance with Broward
County zoning. After considerable discussion a motion was made that boat lifts be
required to have a 15 foot set back from property line. Motion made by Bernard
Swindell, seconded by Mark Latimer and carried. A motion was made that davits be
required to have 10 foot set back from the property line.. Motion made by Bernard
Swindell, seconded by Mark Latimer and carried. Both motions apply to all waterways.
Another topic that was brought up concerned fencing on properties located along a
waterway. It was agreed that people purchase this type of property, not only to have a
place to dock their boat but also to enjoy the view and the breeze off the water. Chain
link fences or low hedges are certainly not objectionable but in some instances solid
wooden fences or cement walls have been erected, often to a height which cuts off both

breeze and view from homes in the area. It was felt that some restrictions should be
placed on this type of construction. Mr. Leeds commented that fence requirements will
be difficult to change but if the board wants to take some action in that direction he will
be glad to do whatever he can to be of assistance. A sub-committee was formed to
obtain information and suggestions for the board to discuss at the next meeting. The
committee will make an effort to learn how other communities are handling this problem.
Capt. Morris said he will get a copy of the city fence ordinance. Billy Phipps,William
Wosenitz and Ray Lair volunteered to serve on the committee.
Capt. Morris called attention to the Memorial Reef Appreciation Reception which will be
held at John U. Lloyd State Park on Saturday, May 22id, starting at 8:00 A.M. This is a
part of the Dania Centennial Celebration. The Danish vessel is scheduled to be sunk
about noon. The best place to be able to view the proceedings, other than John U. Lloyd
Park, would be the Dania Fishing Pier.
Mr. Wosenitz said he had not been in contact with Bonnie Temchuck and had no report
on the grant situation.
There being no additional business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 7:20
PM.
