Airport Advisory Board
September 22,2005
Chairman Jay Field called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
Members present:

(15 students from South Broward High School)
Bud Witz made a motion to excuse Zachary Adams and Ed Summers. The motion
was seconded by Betty Sokol and carried.
• Minutes of the previous meeting were presented for approval. Motion to approve as
written made by Betty Sokol, seconded by Clive Taylor and carried.
Chairman Jay Field welcomed new members Clive Taylor and Don Hill.
Election of officers was scheduled as the first order of business. Because the election
had been postponed on several previous occasions due to lack of attendance,
Chairman Field volunteered to continue serving as Chairman until the next election.
A motion was made by Betty Sokol,seconded by Bud Witz and carried that officers
that served last year continue in their same office until the 2006 ekection.
Chairman Field welcomed the South Broward High School students who were
present to observe. He told them if they really wanted to see government in action,
they should get involved in an election campaign. He commented there were a
number of students that had attended the budget meeting the previous evening.
Chairman Field said he and Ms. Sandier had attended the recent meeting of the
Noise Abatement Committee. He reported the Airport Director had announced the
County is suing the FAA in connection with the use of the Crosswind Runway.

• He asked Ms. Sandler to report what she learned about the way the records of
arrivals and departures ae kept. Ms. Sandler said she was very surprised their
records reflect many more arrivals than departures. One reason for this is that
student pilots practice landings without touching down. There is no record kept
insofar as type of planes landing or taking off. The only way to get a true traffic
picture would be to secure correct information from the airlines which would be
very difficult.
Chairman Field asked Mr.Mikes for his suggestions as to what action should be
taken at this time in regard to the airport. Mr.Mikes said the County is playing
games with numbers, He furnished a lot of background information and explained
how the County had negotiated a land grab a few years ago. He said the County
wants more and more land and urged the board to research the interlocal
agreement. He stressed that Brenda Shaliford needs to go through all the past
records. He urged the board to find out what records still exist. A motion was
made by Beulah Lair and seconded by Betty Sokol to secure all available records
relating to the interlocal agreement. Motion carried.
Clive Taylor said he was surprised to hear that a parallel north runway was
possible. Chairman Field and other members of the board promised to secure
additional information for hm.
• Chairman Field announced the next Airport Advisory Board Meeting will be held in
the conference room,on October 27t6 at 7:00 PM. There being no further business
to discuss,the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
