HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-05-26 Airport Advisory Board meeting minutes Minutes • City of Dania Beach Airport Advisory Board Thursday, May 26tb,2005 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jay Field at 7:00 PM Members present: Jay Field Zachary Adams Thomas Allen Billy Phipps Rae Sandler Irvin (Bud) Witz Beulah Lair Members absent: Beverly Worley Charles Fisher Betty Sokol Bob Mikes Edwin Summers Dick Sokol Others present: Suzanne Witz Beverly Worley, Charles Fisher and Bob Mikes had requested an excused absence. Motion to excuse made by Zachary Adams, seconded by Bud Witz and carried. • Minutes of the February 241h, 2005 were presented for approval. Motion to approve made by Bud Witz, seconded by Billy Phipps. Minutes approved as written. The next item of business was scheduled as the election of officers. Following a brief discussion it was decided the election should be postponed until the next regular meeting when more board members can be present. Motion to postpone made by Zachary Adams, seconded by Tom Allen and carried. Since this was the first meeting of the newly appointed board, the members present introduced themselves. This was Rae Sandlers first meeting and the second meeting for Thomas Allen. The backup material that had been sent out to board members with the agenda was the first item discussed. Chairman Field commented that he felt it was important for the board to have better representation at upcoming meetings which concern the airport. There were only three people from Dania Beach (Commissioner Anton, Beulah Lair and Jay Field) at the Runway Project Master Plan Update meeting. Some of the other areas were well represented. Tom Allen said he would have been present if he had known about it. Chairman Field said perhaps something could be worked out with the MGHA so that information could be published in their newsletter or maybe the board should publish a newsletter but there is definitely 1. a need for better communication. The more people aware of what action is taking • place, the better for all concerned. At the Broward County Commission meeting Chairman Field said there were numerous complaints from people living in the Ft. Lauderdale area about how noise sensitive their neighborhoods were. Nothing was said about how noise sensitive Dania Beach neighborhoods are. He feels our residents need to make themselves heard. If people can't attend the meetings in person, they can at least send emails to the commission complaining about how noise sensitive our area is. There was a lengthy discussion about the necessity of getting more people involved, particularly those residing in the northeast section of Dania Beach and along the corridor of Griffin Road. It is particularly difficult to reach people in the gated communities. One suggestion made was to try to reach the people by working through the homeowner associations. Zack Adams said he felt the people are too laid back. Even though the city cannot take legal action, there is no reason the general public can't unite and take action. Under new business, Zack Adams said he had been in contact with Mr. Robert Berlucchi, the new manager of the control tower. Mr. Berlucchi indicated he would be happy to meet with this board and also MGHA if invited to do so. The board members were enthusiastic about having him as a guest speaker. A motion was made by Thomas Allen, seconded by Billy Phipps tp invite Mr. Berlucchi to attend • the board meeting of June 23'". Motion carried unanimously. Chairman Field said he hopes attendance will be good at the meeting and mentioned guests would be welcome. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.
