HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-03-20 Parks Advisory Board Minutes City of Dania Beach Parks, Recreation and Community Affairs Advisory Board Meeting Tuesday,March 20th,2007 Chairman Ely called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. Members present: Chris Barile Jimmy Peterman Kurt Ely J.J.Jensen Beulah Lair Julie Brockman Members absent: Sharon Nearn Lisa Drake Chip Brockman Others present: Kristen Jones,Parks& Recreation Director Mark Felicetty, Senior Facilities Manager Sharon Neara had requested an excused absence. Motion to excuse made by J.J. Jensen,seconded by Jimmy Peterman. Motion carried unanimously. Beulah Lair asked that she be excused from the February 20th meeting. Motion to • excuse made by J.J. Jensen, seconded by Chris Barite. Motion carried unanimously. There being no other additions or corrections to the minutes of the February 20th meeting, a motion to approve was made by Beulah Lair, seconded by Chris Bartle. Motion carried unanimously. The first item discussed was C. W. Thomas Park. Ms.Jones reported the foundation is going down. The tie beams and columns have been made for the foundation and the concrete has been brought to the site. Everything is on schedule and a July completion date is anticipated. Next Mr. Felicetty reported on the Pirates World Second Reunion. It is to be held at Frost Park on Saturday,March 31't from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be four live bands, a car show and other entertainment. Pirates World memorabilia will be available. The admission feeds $10.00. Proceeds will go to the Rick Shaw Foundation. Chairman Ely asked if all the insurance is properly covered. Ms: Jones assured him it has all been covered with the City. Mr Barite said he had a question about the April 28th Car Show. He asked if the event will be a "full blown"car show with music and food? Mr. Felicetty said there will be a DJ. He isn't sure who will be providing the food for the event but there • will be food,drink and music. The time will be 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. • The next item discussed was the patio structure bid award. Mr. Felicetty said the bid was awarded to Frank Hill Construction. It is scheduled to come up for approval at the Commission Meeting on April loth. There were just two bidders. The other bidder was Coastal Construction. Chairman Ely asked if a picture of the structure is available. Ms. Jones said she will bring the picture to the next meeting. The structure is not a canopy. It is a permanent attachment to the building. The Easter- Spring Celebration which is scheduled at Frost Park for Saturday, April7th was the next item for discussion. Mr. Felicetty said the main feature will be the arrival of the Easter Bunny . He will arrive by fire truck at noon. There will be a photo shoot and prizes will be awarded for the egg hunt. No food is planned for the event. Next item on the agenda was the Sunset Cruise Night on April 28th at the beach, Chairman Ely said that item was partially covered earlier when Mr. Barile asked a question. As previously stated it will be from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. and the question of who will be providing the food hasn't been decided because prices charged by the Pier Restaurant are somewhat prohibitive. Chris Barile asked if there are any plans for the concession stands at the parks. Ms. Jones said all three concessions stands are added to the capital improvement projects which will go to the Commission. Chairman Ely asked that the Board be • notified when this will come up so it can be supported. Jimmy Peterman asked if there is any new information in regard to the netting at C.W. Thomas Park. Mr. Felicetty said he had contacted Randy at the Public Service Department for information and was told the cracked pole will cost more than$1,500 to replace so the problem needs to be brought to the Commission for approval to purchase the pole. Mr. Peterman said it is the netting, not the pole, he is concerned about. After a lengthy discussion he was told he should discuss the issue with Mr. Orlando in the Public Works Department. Ms. Jones said she has been researching different ordinances for a dog park. She was asked where a dog park might be located. She said there is a possible area at P.J. Meli Park that could be used. Chris Barile asked if the City has plans for the land located at 241h Avenue and the Dania Cut Off Canal. The area is off of Griffin Road, north of Tropical Acres. Ms. Jones said the area is presently being developed as a park. There will be barbeque grills and benches available. Chairman Ely adjourned the meeting a little bit early so that anyone wishing to do so can attend the first Commission Meeting of the newly elected Mayor and City Commissioner. • Kurt Ely, Chairman
