Motion to grant excused absence made by Lisa Drake, seconded by Chris Barile, Motion carried unanimously. Jimmy Peterman distributed a list of concerns at C.W. Thomas Park. Mr. Orlando questioned the first items on the list. He asked if these were things that were caused by Hurricane Wilma. Many of the items had to go through FEMA and some have been approved. If the cost of something is more than$15,000 it has to go out for hid. He said he believes a contract has already been put out for fencing at C. W. Thomas Park and all the items on the list are being addressed. Jimmy Peterman said the rain gutter on the west side is dangerously in need of repair. In regard to the rain gutter Mr. Felicetty said he would look into the situation and would take whatever steps are necessary. Jimmy Peterman said ants are a real problem all over the park. Julie Brockman asked if there is a schedule for cleaning restrooms, cutting grass and eliminating bug problems. Mr. Orlando said grass is cut on a weekly basis by a gardening company Playing fields are prepared prior to scheduled games. If the game schedule is revised a seven day notice is seeded. Rest rooms are not a part of his responsibility. Insofar as the ant problem is concerned, Mr. Orlando said he will follow up on it. • 1. . Regarding the maintenance and supply of the rest rooms Mr. Orlando and Ms. Jones will get together and work out a schedule. Mr. Orlando commented that he does not have staff or budget to have someone make regular inspections of some of these problems,so input from the public is greatly appreciated Chairman Ely pointed out that what Mr. Orlando is asking everyone to do if there is any problem insofar as maintenance in the parks is concerned, first call Randy. If Randy doesn't solve the problem, call Mr. Orlando. Kristen Jones commented that Randy is excellent and is an improvement over previous employees hired to do the job. Chip Brockman said that just for the record he wanted to let everyone know that Terri is doing an excellent job at Frost Park. She really gets things done. He said he has had some problems with Randy in the past. A rather heated discussion took place between Chip Brockman and Dominic Orlando regarding playing field upkeep and a mound. Although it involved a number of phone calls and some hard feelings the field in question was ready when the time arrived to play. Lisa Drake said she assumed all three parks have the same problems and she • suggested some sort of check list be put in place so nothing is accidentally overlooked. Chairman Ely said he had a question for Mr. Orlando. Some time a game is postponed because of rain and then it is rescheduled. Is the department able to react to the short turn around on a reschedule? Mr. Orlando answered,"We can but it's difficult for us." Chairman Ely said he keeps hearing from the Commissioners that they are very interested in what happens with the kids at the parks. If there is a problem that is not being solved by staff, he feels the board should go to the Commission. Mr. Brockman said he had received an email from Dominic that said they need ten days notice. He said he feels only three or four days are needed. They should be dragging every day. Seven to ten days is too long. Another thing he questioned was why the roof hasn't been replaced on the refreshment stand. Ms. Jones said she believes that was a part of the original FEMA form that was submitted. Ms.Jones said she will get the information requested. Mr. Peterman sa id d recently C.W. Thomas had a game on Saturday and requested the field be lined on Friday. Instead it was lined on Thursday and there was • 2. . practice on the field every day. Mr:OrVado Qrii1"a game is scheduled for the weekend, his workers try to line it Friday at tbth"t or they may have to do it on Thursday. Chairman Ely commented that if they-practice on the field it defeats the purpose. Mr. Orlando said he doesn't have the staff to handle this differently. Chairman Ely asked why can't they do what's requested on the day requested. Mr. Orlando said they have other things to do on certain days. In the past chalk has been provided so lining can be done by people in charge of the games. Chip Brockman commented that Russ has been very cooperative. Mr. Orlando said his people will do whatever they have to do to accommodate the games but they must have the time and information necessary, If his people feel that what they are asked to do will create an unsafe condition,we wont do it. Chris Barile asked that he he given information on who to contact when Meh Park is in operation because there will probably be similar problems to deal with there. Mr. Felicetty said he will furnish Mr.Barile whatever information he may need. A question was asked about fertilizing. Mr. Orlando said that was one of the items that has not been handled correctly by the present lawn maintenance contractor (Garden of Love). He said bug extermination was not a part of the lawn maintenance peoples contract. He stated he will follow up on the bug problem. Mr. Felicetty next reported on what's being done insofar as lightning systems protocol. The City Attorney is contacting other cities that are using the same system. He will get back to the board when he has information. Chris Barile asked when the building will be finished at Meli Park. Ms Jones said it will be before Thanksgiving this year. New Business-Ms.Jones announced that on December 80 there will be a Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Party at the Parker Center from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The next board meeting will be Tuesday,November 21".
