MEMBERS PRESENT OTHERS PRESENT Skeet Jernigan, Chairman Luther Sparkman, Zoning Consultant Charles DeMuzzio, Vice Chairman Lillian Vacquez, Landscape George Hewlett Technologist, Hollywood Loretha Waiters Robert Schimmel, Landscape Inspec- tor, Fort Lauderdale Bill Brook, Brook' s Wyldwood MEMBERS ABSENT Tropical Nursery Paul Maxwell, Building Official Ray Carvalho This workshop meeting was called to order by Skeet Jernigan for the purpose of discussion on a proposed landscape ordinance. Roll call was taken with Ray Carvalho being absent due to an illness in his family. Mr. Jernigan explained that the proposed landscape ordinance was first put on the agenda in 1977 . Mr. Jernigan suggested that the Planning & Zoning Board go through the proposed ordinance, and put together a proposed ordinance by the next regular Planning & Zoning Board meeting. Mr. Maxwell suggested that a plant and tree list should be added to the landscape ordinance. Skeet Jernigan asked Ms. Vacquez, Mr. Schimmel and Mr. Brook if they could foreseeany major problems in dealing with a proposed landscape ordinance. Ms. Vacquez stated that the size and caliper of a tree should be flexible. Mr. Brook explained that lots being cleared for construction create a problem. Mr. Schimmel agreed with Ms. Vacquez, and stated that he felt that the size of trees and hedges, etc. should be flexible; a provision should be made for inspectors so that they can use their judgement. Ms. Vacquez suggested that tree surveys should be required for new construction. Mr. Jernigan suggested that the Hollywood tree list be incorporated into the proposed landscape ordinance. Mr. Schimmel advised that he would send a copy of the tree list from the Department of Agriculture. Mr. Jernigan stated that if the Board had no objections, he would put together a proposed ordinance for the next regular meeting; there were no objections. Mr. Jernigan instructed the Building Department to place the proposed landscape ordinance on the agenda for the next regular meeting. Meeting adjourned.
