This workshop meeting was called to order by Skeet Jernigan for the
purpose of discussion on a proposed landscape ordinance.
Roll call was taken with Ray Carvalho being absent due to an illness
in his family.
Mr. Jernigan explained that the proposed landscape ordinance was
first put on the agenda in 1977 . Mr. Jernigan suggested that the
Planning & Zoning Board go through the proposed ordinance, and put together
a proposed ordinance by the next regular Planning & Zoning Board
meeting.
Mr. Maxwell suggested that a plant and tree list should be added
to the landscape ordinance.
Skeet Jernigan asked Ms. Vacquez, Mr. Schimmel and Mr. Brook if
they could foreseeany major problems in dealing with a proposed
landscape ordinance. Ms. Vacquez stated that the size and caliper
of a tree should be flexible. Mr. Brook explained that lots
being cleared for construction create a problem. Mr. Schimmel
agreed with Ms. Vacquez, and stated that he felt that the size of
trees and hedges, etc. should be flexible; a provision should be
made for inspectors so that they can use their judgement.
Ms. Vacquez suggested that tree surveys should be required for
new construction.
Mr. Jernigan suggested that the Hollywood tree list be incorporated
into the proposed landscape ordinance.
Mr. Schimmel advised that he would send a copy of the tree list
from the Department of Agriculture.
Mr. Jernigan stated that if the Board had no objections, he would
put together a proposed ordinance for the next regular meeting;
there were no objections.
Mr. Jernigan instructed the Building Department to place the
proposed landscape ordinance on the agenda for the next regular
meeting.
Meeting adjourned.
