Reports and Discussion 4.1 Chairman's Report—Navigation Hazards known as punk rocks were researched by Mike Grady. Mike's research was conducted at South Fork on the New River South of the I- 95 Bridge. Mike discovered that rocks are causing damage to boats and other navigational aids along the canal and He would like to have this problem fixed in the most cost effective way. Mike also noted that he would like to take Assistant City Manager Colin Donnelly out to the river to show him the punk rocks damage. Chairman Taylor mentioned having the city apply for a County Grant B.B.I.P. (Broward Boaters Improvement Program) and Craig Mc Adams noted that the Broward Urban River Trails can possibly help with information regarding the permits. Other most cost effective ways to fix this problem were made such as dredging, day marks, or floating marks. Albert Owler made a motion to have the city of Dania Beach adopt a resolution recognizing the need to mark or remove navigational hazards on the South Fork of the New River within the boundaries of Dania Beach, to be funded through the B.B.I.P.; seconded by Craig Mc Adams. The motion carried unanimously. 4.2 Marina Update- Captain Jay Jackson reported that the plywood was delivered in November to the marina and noted that it will be used in order to cover the decking in order to make it safe for now. The repair of the decking will hold them over until they do requests for permits and surveys before they build the deck. Captain Jackson also noted that although there has been a price increase for the floating docks from $230.00 to $350.00, and the fix docks from $430.00 to $575.00, Dania Manna remains the least expensive in Broward, compared to City of Hollywood and the City of Ft. Lauderdale. Minor repairs and dedicated water for the floating docks are being done for customers to sign-up for dockage. Captain Jackson will also be advertising for new customers to replace for the customers who left the docks. 4.3 Derelict Vessels Report—Jason Riddle reported on the removal of derelict vessels in and around the canals. He noted that the 65' Schooner has been removed. Mike Grady expressed his concern for unsightly vessels seen in and around the canals. This brings concern for unregistered vessels and derelict vessels to be reported to BSO. Craig Mc Adams expressed concerns about the Dania Beach Unidine Park Area and Chairman Taylor noted that he, Interim Colin Donnelly, and Carol Stokrocki researched the area for a Marina. During their research they discovered that this area is slated for ramps, a launching, a bay area, and will be a great place for a boater's park. Chairman Taylor also noted that he would like to bring this interest to the attention of the new city manager. The Marine Board will be coming up with a resolution at the next meeting to have the City of Dania Beach address and pursue this interest. 5. Old Business No old business discussed. 6. New Business No new business discussed. 7. Board Member Comments 7.1 John Kafouros commented on the repairs and condition of the marina. He noted that that marina improvement plan started in 2005. He purchased a boat in 2005 which is docked at the Dania Marina and since being there he has seen very little improvement. His comment is that although there has been a 40 percent increase in rental fees, little improvement has been done and he would like to know where the marina project stopped. John also expressed safety concerns around the marina. Captain Jackson advised John that the delays are due to permits and that they are waiting on money. At the next meeting Captain Jackson will bring the proposal and other pertinent information regarding the Minutes of Meeting 2 Dania Beach Marine Advisory Board Wednesday,January 21,2009 dock improvement project. Chairman Taylor indicated that dock rentals should pay for the manna. Guest Speaker Jimmy Crimminger advised the board that a Grant Advisory Board exists and they can help them apply for grants. He also advised the board that there is a legal battle between the manna being released to the City from the company that manages the property for F.A.U. and the company (who is still under contract) is seeking restitution from the City. He also advised that City Attorney Tom Ansbro reported to the commission that he is close to getting it finalized so the city can get control of the manna. 8. Adiournment Chairman Clive Taylor adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m. MARINE ADVISORY BOARD Clive Taylor, Ch a Approved: Minutes of Meeting 3 Dania Beach Marine Advisory Board Wednesday,January 21,2009
