PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD ITEMS(ADVISORY)
1) VA-13-09 — Request by William B. Bigger III CCIM, for property located at 2541 State
Road 84, Dania Beach Florida for a variance to allow a monument sign four(4) feet from the
street property line and 13 feet from the eastern side property line. (Chapter 28, Zoning,
Signs, Article 28.120 requires a minimum five (5) foot setback from property lines adjacent
to the street and 25 feet from any side property line.)
Kristin Dion, City Planner addressed the board to describe the proposed variance request for
a monument sign to be located at the site of the previously existing pole sign. Ms. Dion
explained that the applicant was cited by code compliance to remove the pole sign to
conform with the city's sign regulations. She further indicated that the applicant is
requesting the setback variances to allow the monument sign in the same footprint as the pole
sign since the electrical is already wired to this location.
Ms. Dion indicated that other than the location, the proposed sign conforms to current sign
regulations. Ms. Dion concluded stating that staff is leaving recommendation to the
discretion of the Planning and Zoning Board.
Mr. William Bigger 6051 N Ocean Drive Hollywood Florida, indicated that the sign on the
property has been located at this site for over 30 years and that he had voluntarily annexed
into the City of Dania Beach and wishes to design the sign similar to the previously existing
sign. He indicated that he has improved the signage and that the variance is merely for one
foot.
Chairman Fetscher opened the item for public comment, hearing no one and seeing no one
further, the public hearing was closed.
Motion was made by Patrick Schilling to recommend approval of the sign variance VA-13-
09, seconded by George Jason. Motion passed on the following roll call:
