HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2010-037 Recovery Zone Application RESOLUTION NO. 2010-037 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY COMMISSION IN CONNECTION WITH THE SUBMISSION OF A RECOVERY ZONE APPLICATION TO BROWARD COUNTY RELATED TO FUNDING OF THE PROPOSED HOTEL PROJECT ASSOCIATED WITH THE DANIA BEACH CITY CENTER; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach entered into a Development Agreement with Downtown Dania Beach Development, LLC for a redevelopment project to be located in the new City Center Project area; and WHEREAS, the redevelopment consists of a new parking garage, a new hotel, office space and future residential development; and WHEREAS, a hotel is one of the most important components of the redevelopment project and is a key economic development indicator of the revitalization program; and WHEREAS, the economic impacts from the new hotel will include the creation of new jobs and an increase in the tax base for the City of Dania Beach; and WHEREAS, the new hotel will boost tourism within the City of Dania Beach with additional economic impacts to area businesses; and WHEREAS, the developer of the hotel is seeking financing to construct the project and intends to apply for the new federal stimulus funding available through the Recovery Zone Application process; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission expressly supports the submission of the Recovery Zone Application to Broward County by Downtown Dania Beach Development LLC, which seeks assistance in funding of the proposed hotel project in the City Center Redevelopment. Section 2. That a certified copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded by the City Clerk to the Broward County Commission. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in force and the effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
