passed unanimously.
4. Reports and Discussion
Colin Donnelly, Assistant City Manager, stated that the City Commission would like for the
Marine Advisory Board to be in attendance for the review process of the Marina Management
Bid proposals, and would like to know their concept or vision regarding the Marina for the
Capital Improvement Plan.
Chairman Taylor noted that at the last meeting the board envisioned a need for boat dockage,
storage, floating day dockage, and a destination spot. He stated the marina could be a profit
center or pay for itself. Chairman Taylor commented the City was going to take over the
Marina, but they had issues of deterioration and security, and then decided to hire an outside
management company.
Assistant City Manager Donnelly advised the management company will only be there to
manage the marina. He advised bids were received for management outsourcing for the Marina
and encouraged the Marine Advisory Board Members to attend the interview process to provide
their input to the City Commission. He indicated that the City Commission would publicly
interview them as well.
Mike Grady commented that the designers should have input from the Marine Advisory Board as
well, before the new design is implemented, then they can design the Marina to meet the
specifications from the Marine Advisory Board ideas.
Assistant City Manager Donnelly advised he was not asking for the redesign of storage slips for
the Marina. He is asking the Marine Advisory Board for their concept for the Marina as to more
public access and storage area, or how much and where does the board think the public access
and the day docks should be located.
Chairman Taylor stated the Marine Advisory Board agreed public access, storage area, and day
docks should be at the north end as close to the pier as possible.
Mike Grady questioned if the management companies know the specifics on how much space
they will have to manage.
Assistant City Manager Donnelly advised that the management company will only manage what
is there now and said that the contract for this project is for two years with a possible two year
extension. The contract would not give the management company the right to manage the
redesign of the Marina because they are separate projects. He stated the City of Dania Beach
wants to keep the Marina legal and operational.
Carol Stokrocki questioned what is being done to encourage people to use the Marina.
Assistant City Manager Donnelly advised the City of Dania Beach is taking out ads in various
marina and boating magazines. He also advised one of the questions on the RFP is their public
outreach strategy.
Mike Grady noted he would like to see signage along the intercostals.
Assistant City Manger Donnelly stated he would contact FAU regarding temporary signage. He
also advised he spoke with FIND regarding redoing the signs in Hollywood by the mangroves
near the Dania Cut-Off Canal.
