HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2010-047 Ficus Relocation Service RESOLUTION NO. 2010-047 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT FOR TREE RELOCATION SERVICES WITH TREE MOVERS, INC., RELATING TO THE RELOCATION OF TREES FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE OF DANIA BEACH CITY HALL IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWENTY-TWO THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS ($22,700.00); PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Dania Beach Tree Preservation Trust Fund (the "Trust") exists for the purpose of accepting and disbursing replacement fees paid to the City Commission as part of monies deposited with the City for tree preservation purposes; and WHEREAS, the trust funds are used to obtain trees, landscaping, sprinkler systems, and any other items or materials necessary and proper for the preservation, maintenance, relocation or restoration of tree ecosystems, for any public land in the City; and WHEREAS, as a result of the activity envisioned by the Dania Beach City Hall Master Plan, several trees have been removed and in an effort to preserve some existing tree canopy and a well-established specimen tree, staff proposes that a Ficus (a/k/a Strangler Fig) tree estimated to be over 50 years old, currently located west of the City Commissioners' parking spaces, be relocated to a new park space identified on the Master Plan located west of the library; and WHEREAS, expenditures from the trust of over Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($7,500.00) requires City Commission approval; and WHEREAS, Michael R. McCoy, Senior Environmental Scientist with the firm E- Sciences, Inc., the City's landscape consultant, obtained proposals from four (4) landscape companies relating to tree relocation services that provide for the safe relocation of the Strangler Fig tree; and WHEREAS, after technical review of the proposals submitted, it is the recommendation of Michael R. McCoy, that the company Tree Movers, Inc. provide the tree relocation services for the Strangler Fig tree; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the use of funds from the Tree Preservation Trust Fund for tree relocation services by Tree Movers, Inc. in an amount not to exceed Twenty-Two Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars ($22,700.00) is approved for relocation of the Strangler Fig tree mentioned above. Section 2. That funding for this cost is available and shall be charged to the City's Tree Preservation Fund— Professional Services Account #102-1501-515-3110. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED on April 14, 2010. G .
