1 . Review of proposed budget for FY 1987-88.

City Manager Jewell presented the recommended revisions to the
proposed 87-88 budget per the July 22nd workshop meeting,
describing the cuts made in order to hold the millage rate at 4. 75
as directed.
City Manager Jewell 's proposed 87-88 budget included the following
recommendations :
(1 ) Not to hire the Resource Officer.
.>.� (2) Not to hire the Community Service Officer. I
(3) Eliminate One VIN Unit Detective position.

(4) Eliminate the VIN Unit Secretary II.

(5) Four School Crossing Guards in lieu of the five requested.
(6) Change from Code Enforcement Officer to Building Inspector.
(7) Transfer Maintenance Workers from Beach to Streets & Parks.

(8) Eliminate Three Full Time Life Guards.

(9) Eliminate One Full Time C.S.O. (Meter Person) . Replace with
one Part Time C.S.O.
(10 ) Reduce Beach operating costs $600, and add $1, 000 for signage
to identify protected and unprotected areas.
While reviewing the proposed budget for the Public Works
Department, the pros and cons of the City continuing to provide
trash pickup services were discussed.
City Manager Jewell reported the revised proposed General Fund
87-88 budget has been decreased from $8,371 ,865 to $8, 174, 587, a
decrease of $197, 278 which represents an increase of 7. 27% above
last year's budget of $7,620, 375.

I The Commissioners expressed general approval of the City Manager' s
proposed budget, commending him on accomplishing a difficult task.
Mayor Byrd expressed pride that Dania has been able to maintain
the millage rate . City Manager Jewell said he tried to make the
cuts without diluting services.

City Manager Jewell reported that under the TRIM law, the 4.75
millage must be advertised as a tax increase because it is
actually taking in more tax dollars due to new construction. He
said that unless a home is re-assessed at a higher value than last
year, the tax bill will remain the same.

millage rate and to schedule a Special Meeting for September 1987, for the first public hearing. P ber 9,

Sewer Fund budgets at a later workshop to be scheduled.
