Home My WebLink AboutO-2010-014 Renaming SW 1 Street--Monroe Udell Street ORDINANCE NO. 2010-014 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, PROVIDING THAT A PORTION OF SW 1sT STREET BE RE-NAMED AS MONROE UDELL STREET WITH A CO-DESIGNATION OF SW IsT STREET, SUCH PORTION BEING LOCATED BETWEEN FEDERAL HIGHWAY AND SW ) AVENUE IN THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, for 55 years, Mr. Monroe Udell has worked in the City of Dania Beach, as the owner of Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor, which enjoys the reputation as one of the finest ice cream parlors in the world; and WHEREAS, Monroe Udell has been extremely supportive of non-profit organizations, including Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, by hosting various fundraisers since opening his business in the City; and WHEREAS, in honor of Mr. Udell, the City of Dania Beach desires to re-name a portion of SW 1st Street to "Monroe Udell Street" with a co-designation of SW 1st Street, such portion being located between Federal Highway and SW 3rd Avenue in the City of Dania Beach; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Dania Beach establishes a street name change as follows: That a portion of SW 1st Street (identified below) be re-named as "Monroe Udell Street" with a co-designation of SW I st Street, in the City of Dania Beach. That future signs on SW 1st Street shall be identified as follows: Monroe Udell Street (SW 1st Street) (From Federal Highway west to SW 3`d Avenue) Section 2. That the City Clerk is directed to provide a copy of this Ordinance to Calvin, Giordano & Associates, the City's engineers, for future inclusion in the "Official Map of the City of Dania Beach" and to notify postal services of the street name changes. The Public Works/Utilities Director is directed to notify all utility companies and to make appropriate signage changes. Section 3. That if any section, clause, sentence or phrase of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance. Section 4. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are repealed. Section 5. That this Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED on first reading on June 22, 2010.
