WHEREAS, the Dania Beach City Commission has approved a site plan and associated delegation request for the proposed construction of a 419 room hotel, 130,000 square foot office building and a 74-slip marina for property located at 1540 Griffin Road, known as the Village Marina Plat site (037-MP-85); and WHEREAS, the previous property owner has lost the property through foreclosure, prior to the delegation request being approved by the Broward County Commission; and WHEREAS, a portion of the property lies within the Runway Protection Zone for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport; and WHEREAS, the Broward County Commission will consider at its January 25, 2011 meeting, whether to acquire the site; and WHEREAS, the Village Marina Plat site is a valuable commercial site that is located with easy access to and high visibility from Interstate Highway 95; and WHEREAS, the property tax revenue generated for the City of Dania Beach by this site is currently $26,839.00, and acquisition of the property by Broward County would remove the property from the tax rolls resulting in a loss of revenue to the City; and WHEREAS, the Hilton Hotel located west of the site is scheduled to be demolished in 2013, which will result in the loss of approximately $126,000.00 in property tax revenues annually and a number of jobs; and WHEREAS, acquisition of the Village Marina site would eliminate the opportunity for a signature "front door" development at the 1-95/Griffin Road intersection, after demolition of the Hilton Hotel, depriving the City of generating higher property tax revenues and the creation of new jobs; and WHEREAS, the site is adjacent to the Community Redevelopment Agency area ("CRA") and would provide a natural extension to the commercial activities provided through the CRA Redevelopment Plan's implementation strategies; and WHEREAS, the emphasis of the City and the CRA on the marine industry and the jobs it provides would also be adversely affected by the elimination of commercial property that is adjacent to the Dania Cut-off Canal; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The foregoing recitals contained in the preamble to this Resolution are incorporated by this reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Dania Beach opposes acquisition of the site by Broward County due to the harmful potential economic impacts upon the City. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. This Resolution shall be in full force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida on November 23, 2010.
