written made by Bud Witz, seconded by Nancy Stafford and carried.
Chairman Field called attention to the notice of a joint meeting of the airport advisory
boards of Hollywood, Davie and Dania Beach to be held on Wednesday, September 22nd
at the Driftwood Community Center and urged all board members to attend. Hollywood
will host the meeting. After a brief discussion it was decided the September 22nd joint
meeting would take the place of the regular September Dania Beach Airport Advisory
Board meeting. Motion made by Karen Gottlieb, seconded by Nancy Stafford and
carried.
The first subject discussed was the letter of August 6th, 2004,written by T. Neal
McAliley of the law firm White and Case,to the Broward County Aviation Department
and the F.A.A. Orlando District Office. Chairman Field said the letter basically stated the
airport has not followed the Sunshine Law or F.A.A. regulations and that the airport is
being expanded without proper regard for environmental impacts on local residents. All
in attendance agreed the letter was in-depth and very well written. Ed Summers
commented that he felt the letter properly addressed the crux of the matter, that being the

EIS. He stated he would follow up to see if the law firm receives a reply and will keep
the board informed.

Chairman Field asked if anyone had any questions or comments about the letter from the
Aviation Department regarding repaving the north runway. Ed Summers said he had
attended the meeting at the Ann Kolb Center in this regard. He had been told that the
proposed expansion of the south runway included the possible elevation of the runway
about eight feet to enable planes to take off over Federal Highway. This, in combination
with several other factors that he explained, could drastically change the noise contour
involved. He wondered where they would get all the dirt that would be necessary and
also pointed out there would be a greater terrorist risk factor. He said very little
information has been forthcoming and there are no pictures or drawings indicating how
the south runway might look. He plans on securing additional information and preparing
sketches or drawings of the proposed south runway expansion. He concluded by saying
the only sensible way an additional runway can be put in place would be to put it parallel
to the existing north runway.
A general discussion followed. There being no further business to discuss, Chairman
Field adjourned the meeting at 7:35 PM.
