A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, RATIFYING AND APPROVING FURTHER
EXPENDITURES MADE BY THE PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT IN THE PRECIOUS PAWS DOG PARK PROJECT;
AUTHORIZING THE PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO APPROVE CHANGE
ORDER NO. 2 FOR THE PRECIOUS PAWS DOG PARK IN AN AMOUNT
NOT TO EXCEED $13,700.00; PROVIDING FOR FUNDING; PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City initially approved $53,000.00 for the construction of the Precious
Paws Dog Park, which $15,540.00 was paid for consulting design of the Park through September
30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, additional funding of$92,924.00 was added to the Dog Park Project with
funding that was approved and transferred from the P.J. Meli Fencing Project funds; and
WHEREAS the Parks and Recreation Department paid additional engineering consulting
fees to Calvin, Giordano and Associates, Inc. for the Dog J Park Project in the amount of
$5,890.00 for construction management in January 2012; and
WHEREAS, a bid was advertised and a contract awarded on December 13, 2011, to
Coastal Contracting & Development, Inc. to construct the Precious Paws Dog Park; and
WHEREAS, a contract between the City of Dania Beach and Coastal Contracting &
Development, Inc., was executed for the project in the amount of$102,148.90; and
WHEREAS, the Commission approved Change Order No. 1 to the original contract,
which provided additional funding in the amount of $20,000.00 to Coastal Contracting &
Development, Inc. for construction of two shade pavilions at the Dog Park; and
WHEREAS, it was recently noted that the Parks and Recreation Department has already
expended additional funds for other Dog Park improvements; therefore, the Parks and Recreation
Acting Director desires to obtain approval for additional funding for further design and
improvements to Precious Paws Dog Park, which improvements include sod, landscape
irrigation and an underground irrigation water line for a total additional cost of$13,700.00; and
WHEREAS, there are unused funds that are available in the Dog Park Project Funding
Account in the amount of$2,345.00;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Commission ratifies and approves the Parks and Recreation
Department's expenditures, which include sod, land irrigation and an underground irrigation
water line in the Precious Paws Dog Park in an amount not to exceed $13,700.00.
Section 2. That the City Commission authorizes the proper City officials to approve
Change Order No. 2 with Coastal Contracting & Development, Inc. for the Precious Paws Dog
Park Project in an amount not to exceed Thirteen Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars ($13,700.00)
for such improvements.
Section 3. That funding for these costs shall be provided as follows:
Use of available Dog Park Project funding $ 2,345.00
transfer of available funds to Capital Project—Dog Park Project:
• General Fund, Recreation P.J. Meli Park Grounds Maintenance
Account No. 001-72-07-572-46-50 5,500.00
• General Fund, Recreation P.J. Meli Aquatics Chemical Supplies
Account No. 00 1-72-06-572-52 40 5,855.00
Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution
are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 5. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
