HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-10-19 Marine Advisory Board Minutes CITY OF DANIA BEACH MARINE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES OF MEETING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2011 — 6:00 P.M. 1. Call to Order Clive Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. 2. Roll Call Members Present: Clive Taylor Craig McAdams Richard Sacco Carol Stokrocki Peggy McKenna Patrick Phipps Richard Sacco Ronald Brozic James Reckert Rhonda Buckner Jackye Clayton Members Absent: Clayton Bailey Mike Grady-excused Albert Owler Guest: Discussion: Clive Taylor advised that he received a letter from the lawyer regarding Pier Restaurant and the Letter of Interest. Clive read the letter and he quoted "The City seeks an experienced restaurateur who provides service consistent with beach uses The City wants to ensure that restaurant design, d6cor, food and beverage services are harmonized with existing beach and pier uses to the City's amenable to indoor an outdoor they restaurant is expected to serve beach goers, fisherman, local residents, tourist and businesses to the area and affordable menu choices that would appeal to various groups alike. Clive made motioned that the Marine Advisory Board concurred with the Letter of Interest as written for the Pier Restaurant seconded by Carol Stocrocki. All favored. Motioned passed unanimously. 1 d Clive also mentioned that the board does not have to be on the review panel, but feels that the board should know who applied and who was selected on the short list. Clive advised that the Broward County Marine Advisory Committee said that some of the items listed under the Dania Beach City Marina Project critical review issues one of the things there are saying is some items listed under the project description are fundable under B.P.I.P. rules such as landscaping, signage, and walkways and the committee need to determine other items. Clive advised that the City needs to clarify who going to operate the marina at this point and that the application is not complete and that the City needs to provide a resolution of support for the project from the City Commission before the Broward County Marine Advisory Committee next project meeting on December 1,2011. Jackye questioned the Port Everglades Expansion Project. Clive advised that that project is being funded by F.I.N.D. and other groups and grant money. He also noted that F.I.N.D. will manage the project and one of the contacts will be the Dania Cut-off because it is connected to the port. Clive said that the project is moving forward and they are going to deepen channel entry to accommodate what they call Post Panama Canal Vessels. Jackye also questioned the mangroves, sea grapes and turtles as questioned in the last meeting. Clive advised that we should blame the state for that; he advised that the state had a plan which was tentatively approved by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. He also noted that he advised Colin Donnelly, Assistant City Manager that we need to find out if the Fish and Wildlife Commission is treating every city one the same and that we can not experiment with this. He also advised that if there is a plan in place. Clive noted that according to the Environmentalists the sea grapes are killing the sea grass. He noted that The City planned to trim the sea grapes trees to have them to grow higher to make shade for picnic tables and to try to restore the sea grass. Adjourned Carol Stokrocki motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Craig McAdams.
