he is a boater.
Sgt. Joe Capua, BSO Marine Patrol advised the board on criminal activity in and around the
marina. He spoke on the rash of robberies around Harbour Towne, Royal Palm and Cozy
Cove. Sgt. Joe noted that at Royal Palm, thieves broke down the door and stole the safe out
of the wall and that some sail boats had their radars stolen as well.
He also advised that 15 cameras were installed at Harbour Towne Marina. Sgt Capua said
that thieves are coming in by boats, bikes, cars and some may even be walking in and
advised that are two different types of thieves there are the smash and grab guys and guys
that come in with rubber gloves and that there are a bunch of different people he thinks. Sgt.
Capua noted that the Dania Beach Marina was also hit once and that the robberies are very
frustrating to them. He advised that they had to hire extra security guards to help with
stopping every car that enters into Harbour Towne after 6:00 p.m. to check driver's license
and vehicle registration and added that this cost a fortune. He advised the Marine Advisory
Board to talk to the City Commission to advise them of what is going on at the Marina.
Clive advised Sgt. Capua that the board will do a presentation to present to the City
Commission regarding criminal activities around the marinas.
Clive advised that he met with Paul Flannigan of Quarterdeck Restaurant and Commissioner
Walter Duke. Clive said that he is very optimistic. He also noted that Paul Flannigan is in
negotiations with The City legal counsel. Clive noted that he believes the restaurant deal is
going to happen.
Clive opened the floor for more discussion on criminal activity at the marina.
Carol questioned if there's anyway that The City can get a taskforce for the marina of some
sort just incase something does happen at the marina they will have another contact other
than the police or is there something they can do to help pull it all together.
Clive stated that he is not sure how much they can do. He advised that reports should be made
because it helps with the numbers in the police criminal data base to help with the stats and to
help get the attention of authorities.
Peggy advised that lights are needed at 30th Ave boater's ramp.
Clive advised that Per Assistant City Manager the Home Improvement Plan/Solar Light
Installation Project will be underway by February.
