Call to Order Clive Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 2. Roll Call Members Present: Clive Taylor Mike Grady Richard Sacco Carol Stokrocki Albert Owler Peggy McKenna Patrick Phipps Ronald Brozic Edward Schniski Marl LaRooca Jackye Clayton Members Absent: Clayton Bailey James Reckert(excused) Craig McAdams(excused) Guest: Sgt.Joe Capua,BSO Marine Unit Gary Stonewall, Westrec Marina 3. Apyroval of Minutes Carol Stockrocki made motion to approve the October 19, 2011, seconded by (no name stated). All favored Motion passed unanimously. Peggy McKenna made motion to approve the November 16, 2011, seconded by (no name stated). All favored. Motion passed unanimously. 4. Discussion: Clive Taylor, Chair welcomed the new members Edward Schniski. Edward Schniski has lived here in Dania Beach since 2001 and he is a self employed License Contractor. He stated that he has a boat that he keeps over in Lauderdale Motor club and he has been a Commodore since 2010-2011. 1 Mark LaRocca, advise that he grew up in Davie and decided to reside in Dania since 2000, and has been hanging in and around Dania Beach since he was a teenager. Mark said that he the owner of a small business in Miami-Dade County which services two counties and that he is a boater. Sgt. Joe Capua, BSO Marine Patrol advised the board on criminal activity in and around the marina. He spoke on the rash of robberies around Harbour Towne, Royal Palm and Cozy Cove. Sgt. Joe noted that at Royal Palm, thieves broke down the door and stole the safe out of the wall and that some sail boats had their radars stolen as well. He also advised that 15 cameras were installed at Harbour Towne Marina. Sgt Capua said that thieves are coming in by boats, bikes, cars and some may even be walking in and advised that are two different types of thieves there are the smash and grab guys and guys that come in with rubber gloves and that there are a bunch of different people he thinks. Sgt. Capua noted that the Dania Beach Marina was also hit once and that the robberies are very frustrating to them. He advised that they had to hire extra security guards to help with stopping every car that enters into Harbour Towne after 6:00 p.m. to check driver's license and vehicle registration and added that this cost a fortune. He advised the Marine Advisory Board to talk to the City Commission to advise them of what is going on at the Marina. Clive advised Sgt. Capua that the board will do a presentation to present to the City Commission regarding criminal activities around the marinas. Clive advised that he met with Paul Flannigan of Quarterdeck Restaurant and Commissioner Walter Duke. Clive said that he is very optimistic. He also noted that Paul Flannigan is in negotiations with The City legal counsel. Clive noted that he believes the restaurant deal is going to happen. Clive opened the floor for more discussion on criminal activity at the marina. Carol questioned if there's anyway that The City can get a taskforce for the marina of some sort just incase something does happen at the marina they will have another contact other than the police or is there something they can do to help pull it all together. Clive stated that he is not sure how much they can do. He advised that reports should be made because it helps with the numbers in the police criminal data base to help with the stats and to help get the attention of authorities. Peggy advised that lights are needed at 30th Ave boater's ramp. Clive advised that Per Assistant City Manager the Home Improvement Plan/Solar Light Installation Project will be underway by February. 2 Carol also questioned if a sign can be posted at the marina for suspicious activity, She also asked if the board can invite the City Manager and Assistant City Manager to attend their February meeting. Clive advised that the board will make a recommendation to The City Commission to have additional BSO Marine Patrol Officers for The City.
