Call to Order/Call to Order Mayor Flury called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Present: Mayor: Patricia A. Flury Commissioners: Anne Castro Walter Duke Bobbie H. Grace City Manager: Robert Baldwin City Attorney: Thomas Ansbro City Clerk: Louise Stilson Absent: Vice-Mayor: C.K. McElyea 2. Acceptance of Certification of General Election 2.1 Motion to accept the General Election results from the Broward County Canvassing Board City Clerk Stilson announced the results of the November 6, 2012 Municipal Election: Mayor: Walter B. Duke II1 3,956 votes Vice-Mayor: Albert C. Jones 2,621 votes Commissioner: Chickie Brandimarte 2,046 votes C.K. "Mac"McElyea 2,007 votes Bill Harris 1,837 votes Rae Sandler 1,825 votes Bruce Hannover 1,442 votes Commissioner Castro motioned to accept the Certification of the General Election results from the Broward County Canvassing Board for the November 6, 2012 Municipal Election; seconded by Commissioner Grace. The motion carried on the following 4-0 Roll Call vote: Commissioner Castro Yes Vice-Mayor McElyea Absent Commissioner Duke Yes Mayor Flury Yes Commissioner Grace Yes Mayor Flury congratulated the winners of this election and thanked all the candidates who ran for office for the betterment of the City. She also thanked the residents for giving her the honor and privilege of serving as Mayor and for making her service enjoyable. Additionally, she thanked City staff for their support during her term as Mayor. Mayor Flury extended good-byes to Vice-Mayor McElyea and Commissioner Castro, noting both are extraordinary public servants. She commented that Vice-Mayor McElyea has served the City all of his life in one way or another and thanked him for all that he has done for the residents, including being at the forefront after every hurricane. Mayor Flury stated it was a privilege serving with Commissioner Castro for the past six years, noting their common endeavor of searching for a clear and appropriate direction, and always being mindful and respectful of, and sharing an admiration for, each other. She remarked there is not a public servant more committed or hard working than Commissioner Castro and were it not for her efforts working with the County Commission, we would not have the Dania Beach Library today. Mayor Flury described other projects and issues in which Commissioner Castro took a leading role, as well as her representation of the Commission on various issues and boards, and thanked her for all that she has done for Dania Beach. City Manager Baldwin echoed the sentiments of Mayor Flury and commented on the importance of electing the best people to the Commission because City government affects people's lives daily. He congratulated the new Commission and looks forward to working with them. City Manager Baldwin extended good-byes to Vice-Mayor McElyea and Commissioner Castro, noting his appreciation of Commissioner Castro's willingness to always work with other elected officials around the County, fellow Commissioners, staff, and the residents of Dania Beach. City Attorney Ansbro commented on Vice-Mayor McElyea's service to the City, noting his legacy will live on. On behalf of the City residents, employees of City businesses, and City staff, he thanked Commissioner Castro for her untiring work to make it better here. Mayor Duke commented he learned a lot from Vice-Mayor McElyea, and wished Commissioner Castro and her family well. Commissioner Grace encouraged the newly elected officials to reach out to staff to do right for the people who elected them to office. She felt Vice-Mayor McElyea has more service in store for Dania Beach and the County,and thanked Commissioner Castro for working with her. 3. Administration of Oath of Office for Newly Elected Officials City Clerk Stilson administered the Oath of Office to the newly Elected Officials. 4. Seating of Elected Officials Minutes of Organization Meeting 2 Dania Beach City Commission Monday,November 19,2012—7:00 p.m. Commissioner Anne Castro left the dais. Walter Duke took his seat as the newly elected Mayor, Albert Jones took his seat as the newly elected Vice-Mayor, and Chickie Brandimarte took her seat as the newly elected Commissioner. Mayor Flury took her seat as a Commissioner. Commissioner Brandimarte thanked everyone who supported her candidacy and election to the Commission, as well as Vice-Mayor McElyea for his many years of service to the City. She promised that she would work hard with honesty and integrity, and represent the interests of all residents of the City above all else. Vice-Mayor Jones said it is great to serve again with a good team, and looks forward to overcoming present and future challenges facing the City. He thanked Vice-Mayor McElyea and Commissioner Castro for their service to the residents, and everyone who worked for or supported him. He vowed to be a full-time commissioner with a listening ear and noted it is not about politics; it is about the residents. Mayor Duke thanked the voters, the candidates, volunteers, campaign supporters and workers, and his family, noting he learned a lot from Tim Ryan's campaign insofar as meeting the challenge of a tough race by walking the neighborhoods, knocking on doors, and meeting the voters. He emphasized the importance of the Commission working together and getting things P P g g S g g done in the coming years. Mayor Duke spoke about major issues facing the City and added his goal is to make Dania Beach the best it can be; he has no political aspirations after his service here. 5. Meeting Schedule Tuesday,November 27, 2012—7:00 p.m. City Commission Meeting Wednesday, December 5, 2012—6:00 p.m. CRA Board Meeting Tuesday, December 11, 2012—7:00 p.m. City Commission Meeting 6.
