HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2014-046 - Authorized the City to Participate in the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Local Solicitation Grant (JALSG) for Crime Prevention Programs not to exceed $14,353.00 RESOLUTION NO. 2014-046 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2014 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE LOCAL SOLICITATION GRANT JALSG A FORMULA GRANT PROVIDED BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, TO PROVIDE FEDERAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE FUNDING TO STATE AND LOCAL JURISDICTIONS FOR CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS WITHIN THE CITY IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $14,353.00; AUTHORIZING THE PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO ACCEPT AND EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT, IF AWARDED TO THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Broward Sheriff's Office, as the lead agency for a countywide grant program to assist in providing federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions, filed an Application with the U.S. Department of Justice for the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Local Solicitation Grant; and WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach is eligible to receive an amount of $14,353.00 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Formula Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH,FLORIDA: Section 1. That an Application for the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Local Solicitation Grant was filed through the Broward Sheriffs Office for an amount of $14,353.00, by and between the City of Dania Beach in the format consistent with Exhibit "A" (which is attached, made a part of and incorporated into this Resolution by this reference), or as Exhibit"A"may be altered through input from a public hearing, is approved. Section 2. That the grant funding from the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Local Solicitation Grant is authorized, and that such funding shall be directed to the Broward Sheriff's Office, which office shall provide record keeping and reporting required by the grant award. Section 3. That the proper City officials are authorized to accept and execute the Grant Agreement if it is awarded to the City, and further, the City Manager and City Attorney are authorized to make minor revisions to the Agreement as are deemed necessary and proper for the best interests of the City. Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED on June 10, 2014. SRO CITY ATTORNEY 2 RESOLUTION#2014-046 EXHIBIT A CITY OF DANIA BEACH WrIH THE BROWARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE The City of Dania Beach will utilize its allocation from the 2014 Justice Assistance Grant ("JAG") in the amount of $14,353.00 to staff crime prevention programs targeting juveniles. The monies allocated will be used to pay after school and summer camp staff, as well as overtime to personnel from the .Broward Sheriff's Office for the following programs: Part 1: With a large and increasing juvenile population, the City of Dania Beach benefits by providing wholesome summer activity alternatives. Summer programs run by the Broward Sheriff's Office designed to directly benefit juveniles living in the City of Dania Beach provide such alternatives. In addition to supervision and recreational activities, juvenile participants receive supplemental education that focuses on succeeding in the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Testing (FCAT) program, nutritional education and training, as well as crime, drug and gang prevention and resistance training. The City of Dania Beach will utilize approximately $4,000.00 of the 2014 JAG funds for overtime for sheriff's deputies to provide supervision and prevention education activities for the summer GREAT program. 2014 JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT REQUEST FOR THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH $14,353.00 3 RESOLUTION#2014-046
