HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes of Meeting - November 17, 2014 MINUTES OF ORGANIZATION MEETING DANIA BEACH CITY COMMISSION MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2014 - 6:00 P.M. 1. Call to Order/Roll Call Mayor Duke called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Present: Mayor: Walter B. Duke, III Vice-Mayor: Chickie Brandimarte Commissioners: Bobbie H. Grace Albert C. Jones City Manager: Robert Baldwin City Attorney: Thomas Ansbro City Clerk: Louise Stilson 2. Acceptance of Certification of General Election 2.1 Motion to accept the General Election results from the Broward County Canvassing Board Results of the November 4, 2014 Municipal Election: Mayor: Marco A. Salvino, Sr. 2,777 votes Vice-Mayor: Bobbie H. Grace 2,557 votes Rae Sandler 2,347 votes Charles Camacho, Jr. 982 votes James Ridgely, III 362 votes (withdrew before Election) Commissioner Grace motioned to accept the Certification of the General Election results from the Broward County Canvassing Board for the November 4, 2014 Municipal Election; seconded by Vice-Mayor Brandimarte. The motion carried on the following 4-0 Roll Call vote: Commissioner Grace Yes Vice-Mayor Brandimarte Yes Commissioner Jones Yes Mayor Duke Yes Commissioner Jones noted he is elated that we will now operate as a full Commission. He added he looks forward to the future of this Commission and he is ready to serve. Commissioner Grace said her few words are one Dania, united together. Vice-Mayor Brandimarte said this meeting is for our newly elected officials, and she will comment later. Mayor Duke thanked the Commission, staff and the residents for giving him the honor and privilege of serving as Mayor. He noted he looks forward to working with Mayor Salvino. City Manager Baldwin thanked the candidates who ran for office. He remarked that the current Commission has kept their focus and has moved forward on every issue that came before them. He noted they have worked hard to accomplish a lot, he is proud of them, and they deserve a round of applause. City Manager Baldwin said he looks forward to working with the new Commission. City Attorney Ansbro also noted these people sitting on the dais are dedicated and do have the best interest of the City in their hearts. He commended Mayor Duke for his hard work in bringing the Quarterdeck to Dania Beach, and the Mayor and Commission for focusing not only on the pier, but also on the entire beach. 3. Administration of Oath of Office for Newly Elected Officials City Clerk Stilson administered the Oath of Office to the newly Elected Officials. 4. Seating of Elected Officials Commissioner Jones complimented the candidates on the way they ran their campaigns, and welcomed Mayor Salvino to the Commission. Commissioner Duke commented he is excited to have Mayor Salvino on the Commission, and looks forward to serving the seat of Mayor and the City of Dania Beach. Commissioner Brandimarte congratulated the four candidates who ran for office. She noted that Mayor Salvino ran a people-oriented campaign, and she looks forward to his leadership and moving the City forward. Vice-Mayor Grace thanked everyone who supported her, especially her husband, family, church family and volunteers. She thanked the Mayor for running a great campaign, and also thanked the residents for their confidence. She said we need to change how we treat businesses that come into the City for permits, and change the looks of Dania Beach along US-1 in order to encourage tourists to stop. Mayor Salvino noted he would like to bring a little lightness to this Commission and hopes everyone will have a little fun with moving Dania Beach forward. He said this town has the best people he has ever met who are dedicated to the City. He noted today is a new day and we are going to move forward as a team. Mayor Salvino thanked his family and friends, and added the Minutes of Organization Meeting 2 Dania Beach City Commission Monday,November 17,2014—6:00 p.m. City will run clean; everything will be transparent. He said he looks forward to moving the City forward with the Commission. 5.
