This request is for the allocation of$7,000.00 dollars from the Federal LETF to be allocated to this organization who will dedicate these dollars for the Broward Sheriffs Office, "Summer G.R.E.A.T Program and anti-bullying programs in two Dania Beach Elementary schools. The Summer G.R.E.A.T. Program was established by the BSO Dania Beach District and direct funding was provided by the Prestige Club during this past summer of 2014. The Dania Beach Summer G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education Training) program provided an opportunity for students to continue building on the G.R.E.A.T curriculum learned during the school year.It is used as reinforcement for students who have received the G.R.E.A.T elementary or middle school curriculum for students who live within the Dania Beach community. This is a seven week summer program offered to 30 students in grades 5 through 8 by deputies with the Broward Sheriffs Office. The students learn a variety of lessons on topics including gang violence and drug awareness. The goal of the program is to teach students about the danger of joining gangs and provide positive altematives to joining a gang. Furthermore the program will teach the students the importance of anti-bullying and resisting peer pressure. The program also provides transportation for educational field trips throughout the county and is ended with a luncheon which is further provided by the Prestige Club that provides etiquette training. This is another resource the Broward Sheriffs Office Dania Beach District School Resource Deputies can use to identify and capture selected juveniles who are in need of a program that will reduce the temptations of joining gangs and at the same time have a positive role model during the 7 week program. If approved, the total amount of this request would not exceed$7,000.00 dollars.I have_411ached our most recent LETF Fund Balance Sheet showing a balance of$48,506 in state funds and$115,094 in federal funds.
