HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2015-012 Supports the East Dania Beach Boulevard Lane Elimination Program for corridor between Federal Highway & the Intracoastal Waterway; authorizes Broward MPO & FDOT to begin review & approval RESOLUTION NO. 2015-012 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE EAST DANIA BEACH BOULEVARD LANE ELIMINATION PROGRAM FOR THE ROADWAY CORRIDOR LYING BETWEEN FEDERAL HIGHWAY AND THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY; AUTHORIZING THE BROWARD METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (BROWARD MPO) AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) TO BEGIN A LANE ELIMINATION REVIEW AND APPROVAL PROCESS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO), has funding available from Federal and State sources to promote their Lane Elimination program; and; WHEREAS, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO) is evaluating this project as a candidate for State and Federal funding; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach recognizes the economic and social benefits of lane elimination and associated street improvements that would result from this program; and WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it to be in the best interests of the City of Dania Beach to support the Broward MPO application to be submitted to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for funding of a Lane Elimination program in the City of Dania Beach, for East Dania Beach Boulevard; NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH,FLORIDA: Section 1. That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are true and correct and they are confirmed by the City Commission. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida supports the East Dania Beach Boulevard multi-modal project that includes the elimination of a vehicular travel lane in each direction to be reallocated for bicycle and pedestrian facilities between East 1st Avenue and Gulfstream Road. Section 3. The City will coordinate the lane elimination process with the Florida Department of Transportation(FDOT), District 4. Section 4. The City will conduct the necessary traffic analysis as required by FDOT working with the assistance of MPO and FDOT staff. Section 5. The City will conduct the necessary community outreach and gather public input. Section 6. That all Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 7.
