AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, PROVIDING THAT A PORTION OF NW 5th AVENUE
SHALL BE CO-DESIGNATED AS REV. W.C. EDCAR AVENUE, SUCH
PORTION BEING LOCATED NORTH OF SW 1st STREET AND SOUTH OF
OLD GRIFFIN ROAD IN THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Rev. W.C. Edcar served the Dania Beach community and the members of
St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church as their pastor for forty-four years (1948 — 1992); and
WHEREAS, an application petition in support of a street co-designation to honor him
was supported by St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church, the Byrd Point Civic Association, and a
great many residents of the community; and
WHEREAS, on December 16, 2014 the City Parks and Recreation Board recommended
approval of the street name co-designation request; and
WHEREAS, in honor of Rev. W.C. Edcar, the City of Dania Beach desires to co-
designate a portion of NW 5th Avenue as "Rev. W.C. Edcar Avenue", such portion being located
north of SW 1st Street and south of Old Griffin Road in the City of Dania Beach;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Dania Beach establishes a street name
change as follows:
That a portion of NW 5th Avenue (identified below) shall be and is co-designated as
"Rev. W.C. Edcar Avenue", in the City of Dania Beach.
That future signs on NW 5th Avenue shall be identified as follows:
NW 5th Avenue
(Rev. W.C. Edcar Avenue)
(for the portion of the road lying north of SW 1st Street and south of Old Griffin Road).
Section 2. That the City Clerk is directed to provide a copy of this Ordinance to
Calvin, Giordano &Associates, the City's engineers, for future inclusion in the "Official Map of
the City of Dania Beach" and to notify postal services of the street co-designation changes. The
Public WorksAJtilities Director is directed to notify all utility companies and to make appropriate
signage changes.
Section 3. That if any section, clause, sentence or phrase of this Ordinance is for any
reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not
affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance.
Section 4. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of
this Ordinance are repealed.
Section 5. That this Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and
adoption.

PASSED AND ADOPTED on second reading on May 12, 2015.
