AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING SECTION 23-111, ENTITLED
"ADDITIONAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION", OF CHAPTER 23, ENTITLED,
"TAXATION", OF ARTICLE IX, ENTITLED "HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION"
OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH CODE OF ORDINANCES, TO CREATE
SUBSECTION (g), TO BE ENTITLED, "SENIOR LONG-TERM RESIDENCY
EXEMPTION", FOR THE PROVISION OF AN EXEMPTION FOR ANY
PERSON WHO HAS ATTAINED THE AGE OF SIXTY-FIVE, WHO HAS
RESIDED IN THE SAME RESIDENCE FOR AT LEAST TWENTY-FIVE (25)
YEARS, AND WHO MEETS OTHER SPECIFIED ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
PURSUANT TO SECTION 196.075, FLORIDA STATUTES; PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER,
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH,FLORIDA:
Section 1. That Section 23-111, entitled "Additional Homestead Exemption", of
Chapter 23, entitled, "Taxation", of Article IX, entitled "Homestead Exemption", of the City of
Dania Beach Code of Ordinances, is amended to create Subsection 23-111(g)to read as follows:
Sec. 23-111-Additonal homestead exemption.
(g) Senior long-term residency exemptions. Any person who meets the requirements set
forth in subsection(d)under this Chapter and Article, who owns a home with a market value less
than Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00), and who has lived in the home for at
least twenty five (25) years shall be eligible for full property tax exemption for taxes levied by
the City of Dania Beach, including, if any, dependent special districts and municipal service
taxing districts.
Section 2. That if any section, clause, sentence or phrase of this Ordinance is for any
reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not
affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance.
Section 3. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances and all resolutions or parts of
resolutions in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are repealed.
Section 4. That this Ordinance shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
