A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, CONDEMNING ALL ACTS OF POLICE BRUTALITY,
RACIAL PROFILING AND UNWARRANTED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach ("City") has an estimated population of twenty
percent (20%) black residents and an additional estimated ten percent (10%) of other minorities

in the equal application of the rule of law to all people; and
WHEREAS, the system of uneven and disparate policing in areas of America, and its
targeting and use of deadly force against people of color, particularly black people, stems from
the long legacy of slavery, lynching, Jim Crow laws, and the war on drugs in the United States
and has been perpetuated by the use of several violent and harmful law enforcement practices,
such as unwarranted restraint of detained persons; and
WHEREAS, police use of force is reportedly among the leading causes of death of
young men of color; and
WHEREAS, people with disabilities and other historically marginalized communities,
including LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and those experiencing homelessness are perceived
by the public to be frequently more likely to be criminalized and become targets of police
violence; and
WHEREAS, the unequal application and enforcement of law has robbed communities of
precious lives, inflicted intergenerational harm and trauma to affected families and is
significantly contributing to divisiveness and racial discord in the nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
