HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2022-053 West Wing Renovation Project Contingency IncreaseRESOLUTION NO.2022-053 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE INCREASE OF THE CITY HALL WEST WING RENOVATION PROJECT' S CONTINGENCY AMOUNT BY AN ADDITIONAL ONE HUNDRED NINE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ($109,600.00), CHANGING THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT AMOUNT TO A NOT TO EXCEED AMOUNT OF SIX HUNDRED FIFTY- SEVEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ($657,600.00); PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the two -pronged aim of the City Hall West Wing Renovation Project is to achieve full compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and create office space for the elected officials and one small -sized City department; and WHEREAS, during the early stages of construction, S3S Construction, Inc. (S3S) discovered asbestos in the floor tiles, which required immediate removal and generated the project's first change order in the amount of Twenty -Four Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy -One Dollars and Seventy -Six Cents ($24,971.76); and WHEREAS, during the demolition work, the contractor identified safety deficiencies associated with further unforeseen conditions involving structural components in both the roof and the interior "bridge" passage structure; and WHEREAS, the above referenced conditions identified resulted in a second and a third change order for the installation of structural beam and other support components totaling Seventeen Thousand Two Hundred Ninety -Seven Dollars and Forty -Three Cents ($17,297.43) and Eight Thousand Five Hundred Forty -Two Dollars and Thirteen Cents ($8,542.13), respectively; and WHEREAS, after careful review and assessment, it was determined that the contingency amount allocated for this project is not enough to cover these unforeseen conditions and any future issues; and WHEREAS, the need to address these unforeseen and safety related conditions call for an increase in the Project's contingency amount by One Hundred Nine Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($109,600.00) to address these change orders and provide for any additional contingencies that may need to be funded for the rest of the project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are ratified and confirmed as being true and correct, and they are made a specific part of and incorporated into this Resolution by this reference. Section 2. That the City Commission authorizes the proper City official's approval of a Contingency fund increase in the amount not to exceed One Hundred Nine Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($109,600.00), which changes the original not to exceed contract amount to Six Hundred Fifty -Seven Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($657,600.00). Section 3. That funding will be provided by an appropriation of Administrative Impact Fees transferred to the project account. Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5. That this Resolution shall be in full force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED on March 22, 2022.
