3.1 Administrative Report
Director Chen reviewed the information included in the agenda packet, consisting of updates on
the Dania Beach Innovation Ecosystem (the Dania Beach Business Academy and the Passions
To Profits program), Dania After Dark (Let Love Guide Your Way sculpture was a highlight),
Dania Beach market rate rents, Smith Store properties (RFP was issued on March 1s), economic
development activities (Gasper Arts Center and pending Fagade Grant inquiries), CRA Plan
update, and the PATCH (new Produce Prescription program, educational activities, and
volunteers).
Chair James noted she likes the fact that we are making the Dania After Dark themed; however,
last month was Black History Month and it was not the focus of DAD.
Director Chen said he would work with the producer to match the DAD theme with the monthly
theme in City Hall.
Board Member Lewellen commented she had a lot of residents asking about who is performing
and the type of music. She requested that the event producer be asked to get this information out
sooner to the residents.
Director Chen noted he is working on this with the event producer.
Board Member Davis said we can celebrate more than one theme at a time, and it should be
reflected in the entertainment. We can celebrate love but can also celebrate Black History Month
at the same time.
Chair James noted the PATCH needs storage, whether it is container storage or a shed. She
knows we have contingency funds and asked the Board if they agreed to having the City
Manager and Director Chen seek joint funding for additional storage at the PATCH.
The Board Members agreed.
Kathleen Weekes, CRA Manager, continued with the Administrative Report with an update on
the Dania Beach Arts and Seafood Celebration.
Chair James said she agreed with having the $10 food items and asked that the vendors provide
enough quantity to last throughout the event. She also asked staff to inquire whether we could
advertise the event on Dania Pointe's large sign or perhaps have a cross -sponsorship.
