HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2022-092 Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Reducing Membership to 5 MembersRESOLUTION NO.2022-092 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, RELATED TO REDUCING THE NUMBER OF BOARD MEMBERS SERVING ON THE PARKS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS ADVISORY BOARD FROM FIFTEEN (15) MEMBERS BEING AUTHORIZED (TEN ACTUALLY APPOINTED) TO FIVE (5) MEMBERS; REDUCING QUORUM TO THREE (3) MEMBERS AND CLARIFYING MEMBERSHIP; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on March 23, 1999, pursuant to Resolution No. 58-99, the Parks, Recreation and Community Affairs Advisory Board ("Board") was created providing for a maximum of fifteen (15) members for the Board to be appointed; and WHEREAS, in practice, the Board has maintained ten (10) members, with a quorum of five (5); and WHEREAS, due to quorum issues and lack of attendance many of the Board meetings have been canceled and as such, the City Commission has recently expressed the desire to reduce the number of members from ten (10) to five (5) and to require a quorum of three (3) members; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the above "WHEREAS" clauses are true and correct, and they are made a part of and are incorporated into this Resolution by this reference. Section 2. That the City Commission reduces the membership of the Board to five (5) members; each Commissioner is authorized to appoint one member. Each member is required to be a City resident for a minimum of six (6) months prior to appointment. The members of the Board shall serve without compensation, and each member shall serve for a term consistent with the duration of the term of the appointing Commissioner. A Quorum shall consist of a minimum of three (3) members. Failure to have quorum to hold a meeting shall be considered an unexcused absence. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with any of the provisions of this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED on June 14, 2022.
