LIVE IT LOVE It MINUTES City of Dania Beach Public Art Advisory Board Regular Meeting Thursday, July 18, 2022 5:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order at 5:05 P.M. 1. CALL TO ORDER 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Public Art Advisory Board -June 9, 2022 -regular meeting Attended Attended Motion was made by Kelly Sharaby, seconded by Joanna Granett. Motion passed S-0 4. ACTION ITEMS: a. Kelly Sharaby was nominated as Chair Motion was made by Lilli Schipper, seconded by Kyla Holmes. Motion passed 6-0. Lilli Schipper was nominated as Co -Chair Motion was made by Kelly Sharaby, seconded by Kyla Holmes. Motion passed 6-0. b. Term limits for PAAB Members were presented by Linda Flynn. Some discussion followed. 5. REPORTS. a. Public Art Program Budget Review Corinne Lajoie informed the Board members that the Community Development Department is in the process of preparing the budget for the next fiscal year 2022/2023. Corinne asked the Board members if they wanted move forward with the proposed budget for FY22/23. Motion was made by Lim Schipper to move foiivard with the budget and Joanna Granett, seconded the motion. Motion passed 6-0 b. Calendar i. Upcoming meetings —The 2022 meeting calendar was discussed. 6. DISCUSSION a. Questions on guidelines/protocols b. Linda Flynn gave a presentation and talked about the City's planned goals for public art and the goal for the first project and to identify two to three ideas for the first project. Areas to consider: • Ocean Park • Downtown District • Parks • The Patch • Waterways and Lakes Commissioner Davis informed the Board members that there is a Master Plan for the Patch and for the Parks. Commissioner Davis said we don't want to overlap with the plans. The Board members discussed locations of where they felt public art was needed. • Griffin Road • Downtown entrances, both north and south • Gateways and Corridors on Federal Highway Discussion was made to make awareness of public art at the Dania After Dark event. Discussion was made for the Board members to take a field trip to see where to place art. A walking tour. Linda Flynn the Public Art Program is for the residents of the City. Lilli Schipper suggested the art be placed in gathering spaces where people hang out and can interact with the art and take pictures. c. Luis Rimoli asked Linda Flynn about grants for art. Lloyd Goradesky spoke about the cost of art. He brought up the possibility of an advertising concept Would give hotels and/or projects the opportunity to advertise with a plaque where the art is placed. Commission Davis brought up the possibility of permanently keeping the Weathervane aA at City Hall. Linda Flynn asked if Lloyd Gordesky (the artist that created the Weathervane) should leave the room during the discussion as it may be a conflict of interest. It was agreed that he could stay during the discussion. As far as purchasing the art, Linda Flynn said that you may want to consider leasing it for a few more years. Lilli Schipper asked Lynn Flynn is we should go with a theme. Linda Flynn said that artists do not like themes. They prefer being asked to provide something for example: celebrate the ocean. Linda Flynn informed us of other cities that have Vision Zero. It's for traffic calming art which has reduced pedestrian deaths. 7. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 6:32 P.M.
