SUBJECT: SECOND READING:
Sign Code Text Amendment to allow
Perpendicular Projecting Wall Signs in lieu of
Pedestrian -Oriented Projecting Signs
APPLICANT: Mayor Castro
The Downtown Dania Development District (see attached sketch)
currently allows flat wall signs, under -canopy pedestrian signs, and
monument signs, subject to conditions.
Buildings constructed on the street lot line (0' setback) with no space
to erect a monument sign are limited to a wall sign and a small under -
canopy (3 square feet) pedestrian -oriented projecting sign. The
pedestrian sign is too small, and the wall sign is not readily visible, for
cars traveling north or south along US 1.
At the Mayor's request, staff has drafted the attached text
amendment, which will allow a perpendicular projecting wall sign (3, x
4') for certain buildings where visibility is an issue.
PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD RECOMMENDATION
On August 17, 2005 the Planning and Zoning Board recommended
approval of the requested text amendment.
