At our February lst, 1990 General Lions meeting the SeaFair hotel project was brought up. The subject was discussed in all areas possible and $re, the Lion members present at this meeting, feel that a hotel at SeaFair would improve the area and benefit the city with significant additional income from the lease and real estate taxes. fl*"Vnr,-Vaa.'/ we also feel that it would benefit the residents of the city by atlowing their families and guests to enioy our beautiful beach and stay at a hotel in Dania instead of staying at a hotel in Hollywood or Ft. Lauderdale. with the present situation at SeaFair we feel that the City of Dania and the residents are losing an oPPortunity if this project does not go forward. we ask you as our City Commiss j-on to reconsj-der your decision and allow the hotet at SeaFair to be built as presented. FLATLEY: IN RESPONSE TO TI{E QUESTIONS THAT WERE PRESENTED AT Tffi CITY COMMISSIONER'S MEETING CONCERNING TEE COOPERATION AGREEMENT, THE DANIA EOUSING AUTEORITY HAS PAID PROPERTY TAX ON TEE MIZELL PROPERTY FOR TEE PAST EIGflT YEARS. TIIE PROPERTY TAX IS APPROXIMATELY $2,7OO.OO PER YEAR. THE COOPERATION AGREEMENT ALSO ADDRESSES P.I.L.O.T., IIIHICH STANDS FOR PAYMENT IN LIEU OF TAXES. ?EE FORUI'LA FOR PILOT IS FIGURED BASED ON A EUD FORMULA. THE FORMUI,A, WEICH IS USED BY EVERY HOUSING AUTHORITY WITEIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA, IS 10ri DTFFERENCE BETII'EEN RENTAI, INCOME AND O?EER INCOME OF TEE HOUSING AUTEORITY MINUS UTILITY COST. SINCE TEIS IS TIIE FIRST PUBIJC EOUSING PROJECT FOR THE CITY OF DANI.A, WE CAN ONLY PROVIDE YOU WITfl A ESI'IMATE BASED ON OTEER HOUSING AUTHORITY'S OPERATING FOURTY UNITS OF LARGE FAMILY PUBI,IC HOUSING. TEE COR$WELI, ASSOCI.ATES, ACCOUNTANTS FOR THE DANIA IIOUSING AUTHORITY, HAVE ESTIMATED THAT PILOT WOUID BE BETWEEN $1O.OOO TO $12,500 PER YEAR. THE EOUSING AUTEORITY IS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY TIIE PILOT TO THE CITY SIXTY DAYS TO TEE YEAR END, WEICH MEANS PAYMENT WOULD BE RECETVED NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 30 OF EACE YEAR. THIS TAX IS A LINE ITEM WIIICE IS AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED INTO TEE EOUSING AUTBORITY ANNUAL BUDGET. I HOPE TIIIS INFORMATION WILI CI.EAR ANY QI'ESTIONS OR MISCONCEPTIONS THE CITY COMMISSIONERS MAY HAVE CONCENNING TIIIS TAX. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO STATE THAT THE PILOT ITAS NOTFING TO DO WITH THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE COOPERATION AGREEMENT. ALL TUE HOUSING AUTHORITY IS ATTEMPTING TO DO IS ?O CORRECT AN OVERSIGHT BY INSERTING PARAGRAPH 58 AND 68 WHICH DEALS WITH SIDEWALKS AND RIGET OF WAY ONLY.
