CALLTOORDER/ROLL CALL Mayor Davis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Present: Mayor Joyce L. Davis Vice-Ma1-or Marco A. Salvino. PRESENTATIONS AND SPECIAL EVENT APPROVALS 3.1 Request for Proclamation Approvals:. Martin Luther King. Jr. Day - January 20. 2025 - Sponsored by Mayor Davis. T Parker Center Rental - Parks & Recreation Commissioner Lewellen commented on items 3.3 and 3.4 u,here fee waivers are being requested and said it makes more sense to show that revenue is being generated through that particular facilitv and proposes that the] take it from the general contingency or one's own contingencv account. She said she is happy to take it out ofher account ilit is not agreed upon to come lrom the general contingency. City Manager Garcia commented that it is the cleaner way and a better practice to sponsor the event. Mayor Davis responded that she is in agreement w-ith it coming from the Commission contingency f-unds. Mayor Davis said she know-s the Commission alwal s sponsors the Four Chaplains ceremon) and said moving forward maybe we can put these items in the budget. Commissioner Lewellen makes a motion for items 3.3. and 3.4 to come from the Commission contingency. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS 5.1 City Manager City Manager Garcia presented her manager's report and touched on the following topics Strategic master plan to recruit and maintain employees. February 25th ribbon cutting ceremony for the Nyberg Swanson house Meeting with Dr. Wanza of the Brou'ard County School District regarding utilizing existing space at Olsen Middle School. Successful conference call n'ith Lyle Sumek New board member orientation for the Greater Ft Lauderdale Alliance Lucky Fish ribbon cutting ceremony next month. PIIBLIC SAFETY REPORTS Captain Tarala reported on criminal activit) in the city. He commented that the) are preparing fbr the annual MLK Day parade and announced that Sherill Tony rvill be coming here u'ith the executive command statf and said it is a big deal as there are many parades that he could attend. He congratulated Captain Cooper on her promotion and thanked her fbr her service. The Commission and Ciry- Manager Garcia thanked Captain Cooper for her sen'ice to the City of Dania Beach. Captain Cooper thanked the citl and lau enlbrcement stalf. Fire Chief Pellecer reported on call volumes in the city and spoke about disseminating toys to children in the community during the holidays. He said the department has achieved an ISO class I rating and that is the highest rating they can reoeive. He extends his gratitude to Femando Rodriguez, Darren Green. Yamil Lobo and their teams fbr keeping immaculate records. He said the ISO rating enhances public safet-v and reduces insurance expenses. Director of Community Development Eleanor Norena introduced the item Ma"v''or Davis asked il the Citl' of Holly-wood is contributing to transportation and Director Norena responded that Mad Arts and the Broward Countl" Cultural Arts Division are contributing to the other locations. so she is unaware il the City of Hollywood is contributing. Mad Arts and the Broward Countt Cultural Arts Division are the ones reimbursing us tbr those costs. Commissioner Rimoli commented that they are in need of ', olunteers and encouraged those interested to reach out to Mad Arts. Mayor Davis commented that this is something we continue to sponsor annually so they ma) \\'ant to consider putting it in the budget tbr the future. Commissioner Lewellen made a motion to approve the item. Commissioner Rimoli seconded the motion lvhich carried unanimoush on voice vote. 13.2 Discussion - Properties: 212-216 NE lst Street. 158 N. Federal Highway. 400 S Federal Highwal - Sponsored by Commissioner Ryan Commissioner R-van introduced the item and played a PowerPoinl presentation. Commissioner Ryan made a motion not to exceed 5.6 million, to enter into negotiations and to submit a contract for the purchasg of these properties. Discussion ensued amongst the Commission. City Manager Garcia and ChielFinancial Olflcer DiPaolo regarding the financing of the properties and conditions of the properties. I 5. CO}INIISSION COM]\IENTS I 5.1 Commissioner Leuellen Commissioner Lewellen congratulated the Human Resources Department on the holida]' luncheon and aw'ards ceremony. She spoke about attending Dania Atier Dark and said it was a fun event. and word is being spread outside the citl' about our events. She commented that the reusable $ater bottles have arrived at Olsen Middle School. and they'are nice. Thel' u'ill invite the commission to come r.r'hen thel pass the bottles out. She uished everyone a Happl' Neu' Year. 15.2 CommissionerRimoli Commissioner Rimoli echoed Commissioner Le*ellen's comments on Dania After Dark and congratulated the Parks and Recreation team. He requested to move the March 25. 2025 Cit) Commission meeting to Monday.
