MEMORANDUM
Date: March 31, 2025
To: Mayor Joyce L. Davis
Vice Mayor Marco A. Salvino, Sr.
Commissioner Lori Lewellen
Commissioner Luis Rimoli
Commissioner A. J. Ryan IV
From: Ana M. Garcia, ICMA-CM, City Manager
Subject: Manager’s Report
Last month, we received an email from Ximena Molina regarding a Children’s entrepreneur market. I
watched the video and found the program very interesting and innovative. Cassi and our Manager
from Frost Park are now in communication with Ximena regarding a possible partnership. We would
like to incorporate her program with our Jr. Flea Market at Frost Park. Taking an existing program and
enhancing and augmenting it is what we are currently exploring.
For the past 4 years, we have elevated our commitment to safety and mitigating risk. We have a very
proactive safety committee and just recently we have added a Risk Manager who is actively training
our employees. This past Tuesday, March 18th, our senior team participated in a very detailed
presentation/educational session. Throughout City Hall and our parks, you will see markings on
stair wells, handrails in unstable areas (see photo), we are accessing our signage, location of
cameras, lighting etc., to ensure we are maximizing our safety initiatives and mitigating risk. We
continue to be proactive and seek solutions and ways to make our City as safe as possible for our
employees, our residents and visitors. Our Risk Manager Wayne Fletcher will next be assessing and
evaluating Dania After Dark on April 12th. Grateful to our HR Team and all the members of our safety
committee.
Last year, I rolled out CORE Conversations; Community Outreach/Resident Engagement with a goal
through October as we will commence CORE on June 12th
at Frost Park, with the last session of CORE 2025 on October 16th at CW Thomas Park.
This past weekend, we had a very successful soft opening at Lucky Fish Oceanfront Restaurant. We
continue to evaluate and explore opportunities to augment parking and expand partnerships with
FAU and The Casino at Dania Beach. Additionally, we are currently in the design phase for
additional beach parking to create additional spaces to park. The design, approval process
(Broward County), permitting and construction will take approximately 6 months. We will expedite
any way possible, and we will continue to think outside the box and entertain any and all options
available to us. Great job by our Beach Rangers monitoring the Beach Campus and the FAU lot.
Additionally, our Beach Rangers monitor the Marina area as well. We monitor the Ask Dania Beach
App for safety concerns and aesthetic issues.
FDOT for a total of $224k. We
have a meeting with FDOT and our City consultant on March 26th. This grant isfor the corridor
improvements for East Dania Beach Blvd. In the past 6 years, we have sought out and received an
unprecedented amount of funding for a multitude of new projects Citywide in the areas of parks
and infrastructure
From the Historic Nyberg Swanson completion to shifting towards the commencement of the
Women’s Club Historic Restoration project. The Historic Preservation Board has approved the
a bidding process.
If all moves forward without any issues, construction is projected to begin in May. We will be
completing a draft report for your perusal and approval of this area of our City Hall Campus to
include a proposed new park designation as well as incorporating a historic component and overall
design that incorporates our arts and entertainment district.
We continue to enhance our City Hall campus from resiliency grants to harden our building (roof,
doors and windows) and to address our public restrooms. Our 1st
been fully completed. Grateful to our Public Services Director and his Team who led this endeavor.
Commencing this October for Oktoberfest, we will incorporate an interactive/informative tent in our
very popular DAD series to include the CRA. We want to maximize information to the thousands of
and promote our City as a viable business
environment to attract new businesses. When I discussed the attendance of our Wine and Seafood
festival with our Parks Director (over 6 thousand attendees), it occurred to me that we must seize
every opportunity to engage with people and promote our City and attract new businesses
particularly on Federal and Dania Beach Boulevard. As we prepare for year 2026 budget,
we should be prepared for creative and innovative solutions for the recruitment of new businesses.
The Greater Ft. Lauderdale Alliance annual leadership trip is around the corner. What a tremendous
opportunity as a newly appointed board member to represent Dania Beach. We have a packed
schedule for 3 days in Boston, from Monday, April 7th until Wednesday, April 9th. Included for your
perusal is our draft schedule. My goal is to seize every opportunity that we can explore and
ideas in the areas of resiliency, transportation, transit, special events, housing options,
partnerships and arts and culture. The aforementioned is an example of the key areas that will be
incorporated in the Alliance 2025 leadership trip.
I am grateful to all of you, and our City Team! Together we continue to move our City forward
initiating new programs and projects, breaking ground and celebrating completed projects and
even more rewarding is our ability to identify a challenge and swiftl
solutions.
