BEACH RD., DANIA BEACH, FL 33004 MAY 15, 2024 – 6:30 P.M. Board Members: Clive Taylor (Board Chair) – Present Stacy Brown - Present Neil Kutchera - Absent Gregory Ralston – Present Antony Thackham – Present Timothy Gaither (Parks & Recreation, Ocean Rescue Lifeguard) – Present Marine Manager of Dania Beach Marina (Guest) – Present I. Roll Call was taken & the meeting was called to Order at 6:25 p.m. - Board Chair Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:25 p.m. Roll call was taken, and a quorum was established. II. Minutes: Approval of Minutes (March 20, 2024) – Motion to Approve Stacy Brown, 2nd Approval Antony Thackham. III. Reports and Discussions – None IV. B.S.O. Reports – None - Board Chair Taylor notes the absence of BSO reports and mentions the lack of a deputy present to discuss derelict issued. V. Old Business - Board Chair Taylor discusses a presentation from 2018. He suggests rezoning the area from Sea Haven Mega Yacht Marina to marine businesses only. He recalls his involvement in the Broward board and the issues with the river flow on the bridge at US 1. - The Board decides to follow the Broward board’s summer recess, with the next meeting scheduled for September. VI. New Business 2 | P a g e Derelict Issues and Signage Discussion - Board Chair Taylor brings up the issue of derelict boats along the Dania Beach canal (US 1). - Board Co-Chair Thackham confirms that the boat in question is no longer present. - Board Member Ralston suggests replacing the sign for the Dania Cut canal, which is now faded and covered by mangroves. - Board Chair Taylor discusses the county's offer to move the sign into the intercoastal waterway, which would benefit all users. Signage and Canal Maintenance - Board Chair Taylor and Board Co-Chair Thackham discuss the need for better signage around the canal, including marking marinas, restaurants, and the kayak route. - The county's involvement in moving the sign is highlighted, with Colin Donnelly working on the issue. - The conversation touches on the historical significance of the canal and the need for clear signage to prevent accidents. - The group agrees to follow up on the status of the sign by the next meeting in September. Discussion/Action - Follow-up on status of replacing/relocating the signage for the Dania cutoff canal entrance. - Provide board members with information learned about plant nursery and manatee sanctuary. - Investigate possibility of planting extra plants on personal land if supply is limited.
